Title
Experimental analysis of convection processes with application of Particle Image Velocimetry and Particle Image Thermometry methods
Summary
In the presented paper the Particle Image Velocimetry and Particle Image Thermometry methods were used to investigate the convection phenomena in three completely different experimental setups.
At first, in the introduction section, the complete and detailed description of both experimental techniques used in measurements is presented. Next, the application of PIV technique to flow visualization in three geometrically different gas channels of SOFC fuel cell is presented. The goal of measurements was to find the channel geometry for which the gas flow distribution will be the most uniform.
The second analyzed system represented the model of Czochralski crystal growth apparatus. Here, both PIV and PIT techniques have been used to determine the velocity and temperature distribution in the experimental vessel. The influence of temperature difference, crystal and crucible rotation rate and experimental fluid level on convection processes in the crucible have been investigated and visualized.
In the ending sections of presented thesis the turbulent flow in the T-shaped channel have been investigated. The experimental setup represented the underground mine cross section and was built in 1:10 scale. Air flow was visualized for two substantially different values of mean inlet air velocity values. The PIV technique was used to determine the two dimensional velocity maps and to measure and calculate the turbulence describing quantities such as: turbulence kinetic energy, Reynolds stresses, kinetic energy.
All experimentally obtained data may be used to validate the large amount of numerical codes that are used to model each from above presented setups.
