Postgraduate Studies at the University of Oxford in the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology
The University of Oxford has recently reorganized its programme of postgraduate studies in the history of science, medicine, and technology. In addition to the research degrees of D.Phil. (Doctor of Philosophy) and M.Litt. (Master of Letters), it now offers two new taught courses leading to either the M.Phil. (Master of Philosophy) or the M.Sc. (Master of Science) in any one of the following fields: history of science and techno-logy, social history of medicine, and historical demography.
All these degrees are full-time. Candidates for the research degrees of d.Phil. and M.Litt. are required to reside in Oxford for a minimum of two years, while the M.Phil, and M.Sc. last two years and one year respectively. The facilities for study in Oxford are excellent. The Bodleian and Radcliffe Science Libraries are exceptionally rich, and their resources are complemented by numerous other specialized and college libraries.
