Porównanie klastrowego modelu adsorpcji i teorii funkcjonałów gęstości
jako narzędzi do opisu i identyfikacji struktur mikroporowatych
Podstawowym problemem badawczym dysertacji jest analiza współzależności geometrycznej, strukturalnej i energetycznej heterogeniczności powierzchni węglowych materiałów mikroporowatych oraz istotnych korelacji pomiędzy tymi właściwościami i przebiegiem mechanizmu zjawisk adsorpcyjnych.
Analizę teoretyczną problemu badawczego przeprowadzono wychodząc z rozważań kinematycznych ruchu pojedynczej (dubletu) indywidualnej cząsteczki adsorbatu, dla których zaproponowano formalny opis teoretycznej identyfikacji mechanizmów adsorpcji zlokalizowanej i przypuszczalnie mobilnej.
Sformułowanie modelu teoretycznego, pozwoliło na opracowanie oryginalnego oprogramowania mającego na celu przeprowadzenie analiz numerycznych. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych obliczeń zidentyfikowano mechanizmy adsorpcji w modelowych układach, a uzyskane rezultaty poddano falsyfikacji w świetle analiz stanu równowagi kinematycznej i termodynamicznej, a także parametrów modeli klasy LBET.
Przesłanki wynikające z analiz skonfrontowano z jednej strony z wynikami dopasowania izoterm teoretycznych modeli klasy LBET dla mechanizmu zlokalizowanego, a z drugiej - z danymi literaturowymi rezultatów dopasowań z zastosowaniem narzędzi DFT dla mechanizmu mobilnego. Na podstawie porównania jakości dopasowań dokonano oceny użyteczności podejścia do teoretycznej identyfikacji mechanizmów adsorpcji, a także sformułowano rekomendacje dla zastosowania tych formalizmów, biorąc pod uwagę a priori przyjęty mechanizm adsorpcji.
Comparison of the clustering-based adsorption model and density
functional theory as the tools for description and identification of porous
structures
The aim of this dissertation is to investigate the correlation between geometrical, structural and energetic heterogeneity effects and its impact on the adsorption mechanisms, i.e. localized and mobile.
Theoretical analysis of the correlation of materials' properties and adsorption mechanisms is led by investigation of adsorptive molecule (doublets of molecules) movement near attractive adsorption sites, arising from adsorbent surface geometrical heterogeneities. To this aim, kinematic equilibrium of the particle movement is considered and compared to the adsorbate critical properties. This enables identification of localized and possible mobile mechanisms and evaluation of its statistical significance. The numerical analyses were performed applying originally elaborated numerical tools. Model materials were designed to emulate properties of real microporous carbon adsorbents, so it allows comparison of obtained results with other literature or empirical data.
In order to check the applicability of the presented approach, in facilitation of selecting of the most appropriate mathematical adsorption model, the results were confronted with the fitting of theoretical adsorption isotherms to the empirical data, applying LBET class adsorption models and density functional theory.
The comparison of the fitting quality provides the information of the approach applicability and also the complementarity of both models. Thus, it enables a recommendation for the most appropriate model, bearing in mind the basic assumption of the adsorption mechanism.
