- DESCRIPTION OF A RESTAURANT -
After a hard long day of visiting Salford I wanted to eat somewhere relaxed and homely. Luckily for me, at Trafford Road I found a very nice place which fitted the bill perfectly.
An old English restaurant called Hanrahan's is situated there. The name of the restaurant is derived from a name of great voyager of the XIX century, Hanrahan. As the legend says after traveling around the world he disappeared somewhere in the middle of Africa.
Back to the restaurant, its menu can resemble the life of the Hanrahan for its variety and original style. Everyone can find there something for themselves. For me, a great pleasure was eating a dish called “Seafood Linguini”. It was made of fresh salmon, cod, prawns, crabmeat and mussels which I absolutely adore, served in a bisque sauce with linguini pasta.
I was being amused all the time by the actions of the rather lovely staff, you felt as if everyone was long lost friends.
What’s more, I had a chance to talk to the executive chef of the brigade of 14 chefs working in the kitchen. He told me that his brigade were prize-winners of many chefs’ competitions and that all food served at Hanrahan's is cooked to order in the restaurant’s own kitchen. And that proves why it is so delicious.
The establishment of Hanrahan’s combines restaurant and pub features. You can always come to rest or have a nice romantic dinner in the restaurant part, whereas if you’re looking for some fun there is always something going on in the pub.
At the pub you can get a taste of the old English lager. You can also grab a pint of Guinness or sample a great whiskey. I personally have a fancy for one of their Speciality Coffees,
“After Night” made with a bit of Crème de Menthe and Cacao.
In conclusion, Hanraha’s is the place where I felt really comfortable and that’s why I recommend it as a place for families as well as an alternative lunch venue for business people or groups of friends who just want to have fun in pub.
Go there and try their Coffees!
2. Speaking exercise – description of a restaurant.
Students work in 5 groups. Each group has to recommend different restaurant:
Group 1 - McDonald’s Group 2 – Sphinx Group 3 – Green Way Group 4 – A Dong
Group 5 – Marriott Hotel Restaurant
They have to discuss such elements:
Where is a restaurant situated?
What is the interior like?
What type of food can you eat there?
Is the food healthy?
Does it cost a lot to eat there?
Which dish do you recommend?
What is the stuff of the restaurant like?
What kind of meetings can you have there (business, romantic dinner, dinner with friends, with children etc.)?
After preparation, students make their presentations in front of the class. They can use posters, folders etc. to make their presentations more interesting (preparing them can be their
homework and presentations can be done during next lesson).
