About the Authors

Jan Grad (dr. hab.) is an ethnographer, culture expert, and an associate professor

at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. He is a head of the Department of Research on Participation in Culture of the Institute of Cultural Studies of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. Research interests: theory and methodology of research on culture, participation in culture, customs and traditional culture. Author of books: “Obyczaj a moralność. Próba metodologicznego uporządkowania badań dotychczasowych” (Eng. “Custom and Morality. An Attempt to Methodologically Organize the Current Research”), Poznan 1993; “Badania uczestnictwa w kulturze artystycznej w polskiej socjologii kultury. Analiza metodologiczno-teoretyczna” (Eng. “Research on Participation in Artistic Culture in Polish Sociology of Culture. Methodological and Theoretical Analysis”), Poznań 1997; co-author (along with U. Kaczmarek), “Organizacja i upowszechnianie kultury w Polsce. Zmiany modelu. Andrzej Gulczyński is employed at the Department of Roman Law and the History

of Jurisprudence as an associate professor, he is the director of the Museum of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, is the president of the Poznan Society of Friends of Sciences. In his research, he specializes, among others in issues of European legal culture, evolution of legal institutions, and visualization of law. He is an author of over 100 publications, including books: “Ministerstwo byłej Dzielnicy Pruskiej (1919–1922)” (Eng. “The Ministry of the Former Prussian District (1919–1922)”), 1995, “Nazwisko dziecka. Ewolucja ukazywania relacji rodzinnoprawnych” (Eng. “The Child’s Surname. Evolution of Showing Family Relations”), 2010. He is an editor of the books: “Wielkopolanie XX wieku” (Eng. “The Greater Poland Peoples in the 21st Century”), 2000, “Leben nach dem Tod. Rechtliche Probleme im Dualismus: Mensch — Rechtssubjekt,” 2010, “Rechtsikonographie geistlicher und weltlicher Macht,” 2012, “Uniwersalne wartości w uniwersyteckim dyskursie” (Eng. “Universal Values in the University Discourse”), 2016. He is also an editor of the series “Magistri Nostri. Professors of the University of Poznan’s Law School” and “Greater Poland in the Past and Today. Studies, Sources, and Materials.” He participated in international research programs and presented the results of his

research, among others during lectures in Austria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Spain, Germany, Slovakia, Slovenia, Italy, and Latvia.

Jaromir Jeszke (dr hab.) is a historian of science and anthropologist of knowledge.

He is an associate professor at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. He manages the Team for Historical and Social Problems of Science at the “Pracownia Pytań Granicznych” University Center. He is an editor-in-chief of the Polish Journal of

Science, Its Needs, Organization, and Development. He is the vice-chairman of

the Committee of the History of Science and Technology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In his research he deals with the issues of history and anthropology of medical knowledge, historiography and methodology of research on science. He also deals with the issue of the role of history in the process of intercultural communication.

Anita Magowska is a full professor and head of the Department of History and

Philosophy of Medical Sciences of the Medical University of Poznan. Interests: history of medicine, history of pharmacy, history of the press, lithuanistics. She is a Secretary General of the International Academy of the History of Pharmacy, president of the Polish Society for the History of Medical Sciences, president of the Robert Koch Scientifi c Association, and an editor-in-chief of the semi-annual

Acta Medicorum Polonorum.

Roman Murawski is a full professor, head of the Department of Mathematical

Logic at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. He deals with the logic and basics of mathematics as well as the philosophy and history of mathematics and logic. Author of 21 books and over 180 scientifi c papers. He was a scholarship holder of Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung, Oxford Hospitality Scheme, and DAAD. He conducted research at the universities of Heidelberg, Erlangen, Brussels, Hanover, Amsterdam, and Oxford. He participated in numerous international conferences, gave lectures at many foreign universities. He was the president of the Polish Society of Logic and Philosophy of Science and a member of the Committee on the History of Science and Technology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He is a member of editorial committees of several national and foreign scientifi c journals. R. Murawski is also a winner of the awards of the Minister of Science and Higher Education (three times), Samuel Dickstein awards granted by the Polish Mathematical Society, awards of the city of Poznan, professor subsidy of the Foundation for Polish Science, and many times prizes of the Rector of Adam Mickiewicz University. He is also a member of the Academia Europaea.

Janusz Skoczylas is a full professor and geologist, for over 40 years is a researcher

at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. His scientifi c portfolio includes 470 publications, including 16 monographs on petroarcheology (archeometry), geology, the history of earth sciences, and the use of rock materials. He was a

participant of the archaeological and conservation expeditions in Egypt, Bulgaria, and Ukraine. He is an honorary member of the International Commission on the History of Geological Science as part of the Union of Geological Science (INHIGEO), the Lithuanian Society of Naturalists (Lietuvos Gamtos Draugija), and many other scientifi c societies.

Antoni Szczuciński (dr hab.) is an associate professor, and head of the Department

of Philosophy of Science, a member of the Committee of Philosophical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He deals with philosophical problems of physics and cosmology, general methodology, and some issues of social philosophy. He is an author of 130 works, and an organizer of nationwide conferences of philosophy of physics.
