1) If the speed of electromagnetic radiation increases, the accuracy of the estimation of the position of annihilation along the line-of-response would worsen, despite the better coincidence resolving time. (see chapter 1 of this thesis)

2) In the quest for faster scintillation materials it is more efficient to focus on a higher light yield and a shorter decay time than on a shorter intrinsic rise time. (see chapter 6 of this thesis)

3) An accurate calculation of the Cramér-Rao Lower Bound on the timing resolution of scintillation detectors with non negligible optical transit time-spread is rather more interesting for a mathematician than for a physicist. (Physics in Medicine & Biology 59 (2014) 6215-6229)

4) Believing that the universe is non deterministic because it feels as if you have free will does not make sense. Even in a deterministic universe one would have the feeling of free will.

5) Once all laws in physics are known and we are able to determine the outcome of any possible experiment, we still do not understand who or what created the laws.

6) The Drake Equation, used to estimate the number of active, communicative extraterrestrial civilizations in the Milky Way galaxy, contains seven parameters, of which four have such large error bars that it is meaningless to argue whether or not there are other civilizations in our galaxy to communicate with. 1) Als de voorplantingssnelheid van elektromagnetische straling zou toenemen, dan neemt de nauwkeurigheid van de schatting van de positie van annihilatie op de line-of-response af, ondanks de betere tijdsresolutie. (zie hoofdstuk 1 van dit proefschrift) 2) In de zoektocht naar betere scintillatiematerialen is het efficiënter om zich te richten

op een hogere lichtopbrengst of een kortere vervaltijd dan op een kortere stijgtijd. (zie hoofdstuk 6 van dit proefschrift)

3) Een nauwkeurige berekening van de Cramér-Rao Lower Bound van de tijdsresolutie van scintillatiedetectoren met niet verwaarloosbare tijdspreiding in het optische transport is eerder interessant voor een wiskundige dan voor een natuurkundige. (Physics in Medicine & Biology 59 (2014) 6215-6229)

4) Aannemen dat het universum niet-deterministisch is omdat het voelt alsof je vrije wil hebt is betekenisloos. Zelfs in een deterministisch universum zou men het gevoel van vrije wil hebben.

5) Zodra alle natuurkundewetten bekend zijn en we in staat zijn om de uitkomst van ieder mogelijk experiment te bepalen, begrijpen we nog niet wie of wat de wetten heeft laten ontstaan.

6) De vergelijking van Drake, gebruikt om het aantal actieve, communicatieve buitenaardse beschavingen in het Melkwegstelsel te schatten, bevat zeven parameters, waarvan vier zulke grote onnauwkeurigheid hebben dat het zinloos is om te discussiëren of er wel of geen andere beschavingen in ons sterrenstelsel zijn om mee te communiceren.
