MICROFAUNA 01' THE LOWER DEVONIAN DEPOSITS PII!IlCED BY RORE· BOLE KROWlB BAGNO IG I
Summary
71
Mlcrofoeslls that are tHSICussed in the present article eome from the marine de- posdd;s of the l'Owennost Lower Devanian pierced by bore hole Kro-w.fe Bagno, so-uth- -eastern area of .Poland. Siltstone-clay deposlts of the ~owermost Lower Devonian are overlaln with· a series of sandstones (Upper SlogenlSll - Emslan) that repre- sent the Lower Devonlian of Old-Red type. The siltstonee include .a rich assemblage of fOOSl.ls (pelecypods, brachlopods, trllobtle8, tentacuHtes, OIttracods, oooodants), very approximate to the faunlstic assemblages f.ound to occur In the type Gedfnnl"" and Lower Si<!ienlSll <leposits of West Europe, an<l of VoJ,hyn!a and Podolia
The bore bole Krowie Bagoo has demonstrated that at a depth of 173~1832 m ostracods occur in masses. are well preserved, and, BB a rule, make banks that ac- company both pelee;ypodS and bracbiq>OOs. A lot of 6peCies are Identical with those occurclng In the Czortk6w ""d Ivanlevo Beds liD the areas of PodolIa ""d Volbynia.
On the Dther hand, the species described from the BorshtshDv Beds of Podolla are only slighUy represented. All the same time the Krowte Bagno area dlscloseo species known from the GedlnnlSll of the Ardennes (Prlmltla ;ones!) and from the Lower Devonlan of North America, and so far unlmown from the area of Podolla.
At depth of 1744-17'78,3 m conodonts charaelerlou.: of the stage steinhomensi.
ha"e been encountered. However, the lack of 1. wOBchmldtt Z leg I e r makes It Imposslhle to determine the horizon dtstlngulshed In this stage. The specimens de- termined by the ·present author as S. steinhornenBiB sensu lata occur in small quan- tities and do not allow any _cies to be determined precisely.
The analysis based <m. rthe researeh of ostracods allowed the author to make stratlgrllllhlcaJ. correlations. Deposits that OCCU1" at a depth of 17S~1830,2 m car- respond to the Czortk6w Beds and lvanievo Beds diJotineulshed In the Gedinnlan of Podolla, as wen as to the Gedlnn.lan depos:ltsln the Ardennes. The boundary be- tween the posslhle equlvalEllts of the Czortk6w aod the Ivanlevo Beds st Krowie BagnO runs at .. depth of 1804-1811 m, or even somewhat lower. A more detailed descriptfnn of this boundary seems to be impossible, since the author did not have at her dloposa1 any saroples from the depth of 1780,2-1804,0 m. As far 88 the occuc- renCe of the equivalents of .the Ivanievo Beds in !the area 'Of Krowie Bagoo is con- cerned, oCODclusiolls lmve been drawn on the lbaBfs of the mass occurrence

The structure of ·the end portion of the posterior branch of tlUs conodont is'pertlcula.ly chamcterlstlc, Here are found 'three very high, alkn, pointed, and etrongl;y baockwa«ls inclined teeth. Two of them .. re marl!:edly higher than the main tooth; the <lhdrd oltuated between them, corresponds, wlth lto heighJl, to the height of the main tooth. Behind these three teeth there occurs another small tooth, with .. height equal to that of the posterior orancl1. ThIs tooth is strongly deviated from the other'ones. The posterior branch is ooly slightly longer than the anterior braneh.
The species here ~s.idered oCcurs in the Lower D.evonian deposits pierced by bore hole Krowle Bagno IG I,
