D.J. Antvelink Operational D.S.S. for the stowage of products in Chemical Tankers. Part 2. Masters thesis, Report 95.3.LT.4446, Transport Engineering and Logistics.
In this report the development of STOWAGE D.S.S.® is discussed. STOWAGE D.S.S. is a decision support system developed to automate the stowage planning of all possible liquid bulk transportation on tankers. All regulations on technical and reactivity matters, all operational matters as heating, port rotation and stability and all commercial matters as options taking-or-leaving, are included in this system.
The system is flexible as all decisions can be overruled and new restrictions can be added.
In the development of this system the author realized the fine tuning of a stowage is based on personal preferences which differ from person to person. Therefore the system is flexible so that the fine tuning of a stowage can be done in the last stage of the planning in an interactive way. In earlier stages the system can operate autonomously. Which will make decision making faster and easier and produce more profitable results for the shipowner.
