Introduction

The latest issue of “Labor et Educatio” is dedicated to the broadly under- stood contexts of modern education. The issues raised there and the specifics of the articles result from the specifics of modern times. After all, these times, marked by numerous transformations and social changes, generate metamorphoses in individual, group and environmental functioning. Un- doubtedly, transformations taking place on many levels are a challenge for educators, as it is the changes that determine the directions of contemporary educational trends and areas of education appearing increasingly often in connection with numerous socio-technological changes. The operationalization of these challenges translates into activities addressed to people at all stages of life. After all, every change confronts every person with the need to acquire new knowledge, ways of behavior and values, mental and conscious changes, which means it requires lifelong learning. Therefore, the changes taking place nowadays become the basis for undertaking scientific discourse and research on the latest research trends in education.

The first part of the yearbook contains articles that in nature are theoretical scientific theses on extremely crucial issues from the perspective of education, both in Europe and around the world. Here you can find issues related to educational challenges in relation to the elderly (articles by Adam A. Zych – Special Geragogics: Pedagogy of the Old Man with Disabilities and Anna Weissbrot-Koziarska – Lifelong learning senior in the perspective of the neuro- and psychosocialconcept), as well as issues related to the development of modern

man’s health awareness (Manfred Cassens, Christine Prasch – The Importance of Research-Based Learning as a Didactic Necessity in German Public Health Degree Programs) or awareness of the threats from sects (Mariusz Gajewski – Sects in the educational space of children and youth: situation analysis and indications for preventive measures), as well as the challenges facing education for peace (Elena Anatolievna Zhizhko – Dimensions of Education for Peace:

Theory, Spaces and Actors. Experiences from Mexico). Furthermore, many articles address the issue of effective learning (Agata Popławska – Pedagogical category – learning – in the perspective of selected paradigms) including mathematics (Vinod Kumar Kanvaria – Edmodoing the Concept Attainment in Mathematics and Pedagogy: A Participant Observation Exploratory Stud).

Other issues considered important from the perspective of the challenges of modern education were those related to the education of future teachers (Joanna Madalińska-Michalak – Shaping the Future of Teaching Profession) and the use of the latest technological advances in educating students of various specialties (Mirosław Grewiński, Marek Kawa, Joanna Lizut – Chosen of Current Challenges for Educational System and Learning). This part also includes issues related to the constitutional right to education in Poland (Marek Klimek – The Right to Education in the Constitutions of Poland of the 20th Century).

The second part of the Studies journal contains articles presenting the latest research results in various areas of education. Much like in the first part, the issues refer to people at various stages of development and to various areas of education. The issue of patriotic education is addressed in the article by Norbert G. Pikuła (Elderly people in the process of patriotic education of young generations of Poles living abroad), while physical education by Grzegorz Kozdraś (Humanization of physical education in early school education).

Various contexts of academic education are of interest to Abanikannda Mutahir Oluwafemi – (Effectiveness of Hypermedia and Multimedia Learning Strategies on the Academic Performance of Chemistry Students in Nigeria) oraz Mirosław Laskowski (The sense of self-efficacy of academic teachers at a military university and their self-esteem). Due to the fact that the changing world generates many social phenomena, not only positive but also negative ones, two researchers have focused on the latter. Katarzyna Nowosad raises

the issue of migration in the perspective of the value of work (Value aspects of work by labor migrants and employed on the Polish labor market).

This vast content of the issue is complete with a review of the book, as well as reports from conferences on topics included in the journal’s profile. Reading the texts included in this issue of “Labor et Educatio” will certainly provide valuable insight and will probably be an incentive for discussion and further reflection.
