L. Y a r d , Aus den Archiven von Theadelphia - Papyri Wessely Pragenses (Listy Filologické L X X X / 1 / 16—31).

In this article the author publishes a big accounts-roll of Eire-nios (from the year 246 A.D.), being the continuation of the pre-viously published 25 pieces of the correspondence of Heroninos (cf. Listy Filologické 70 [1946] 273 ff.; 71 [1947] 177—185). The papyrus shows that in the Egyptian estates there existed in this epoch two categories of agricultural labourers: seasonal ou part-time labourers hired for some kind of work and permanent labourers, divided again into two groups: οΐκέται = slaves, and personally free μετρηματιαιοι,, corresponding to modern labourers on wages (see on the latter the author's article, above pp. 97—110).

L. Castiglione, Graeco-Aegyptiaca (Acta Antiqua Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae, t. II, fasc. 1—2 [1954] 63—75).

From the three articles published under the title "Graeco-Aegyptiaca", the first refers to Diodor's (I, 48) description of the ancient Egyptian court of 30 men; the second — to a monument of the Osiris-cult; and the third to a mummy-ticket from the II cen-tury A.D. In this ticket the name of the father is Apollonios, the name of the deceased person Σενωρος. The author explains that the second part of this name contains that of the Egyptian god Horus. It is noteworthy that the deceased person belonged to the Greco-Egyptian class of the population.

W. Müller, Griechische Ostraka aus Elephantine/Syene I (Mitteil. des Instituts f. Orientforschung der Deutschen Akad. d. Wiss. Bd. V. Heft 1 [1957] 1—9).

The collection contains 11 ostraca from which No 1 (62 A.D.) concerns the payment of the γεωμετρία-tax; No. 2 (79 A.D.) and No. 3 (80 A.D.) — the payment of the λαογραφία and χειρω-νάξιον taxes; No. 4 (88 A.D.), No. 5 (89/90 A.D.), No. 6 (91 A.D.), No. 7 (90/91 A.D.), No. 8 (91/2 A.D.), No. 10 (126/7 A.D. ?), No. 11 (134 A.D. ?) concern all the payment of the λαογραφία-tax; No. 9 (105/6 A.D.) — the payment ύπερ χεφωναξίου and No. 12 (137/8 A.D.) — the payment ύπερ μερισμού. It is noteworthy that in No. 10 the lessee is Flavius Eutyches, a freedman, and in No. 11 the col-lector of the lease is Julius Sabinus, a Roman.
