READING

Part 1

Read the text and decide if the following sentences are T (true) or F (False).

Barry Robinson was a shopkeeper in a small village shop in the Scottish mountains. For over 30 years he also ran a rescue service. He worked without pay and he saved a lot of people. Once he saved a boy who went climbing in the mountains. When Barry and his team arrived, the boy was in real danger. He could not move because his leg was broken. Barry managed to get to the boy and, with the help of his friends, took him home.

The boy thanked Barry for saving him, but people didn't often think about the rescuer.

They were too frightened by their experience and they wanted to leave as soon as they could. Barry taught his son Eddie how to rescue people. Now, Eddie is following in his father's footsteps. In addition to selling bread in the shop his father left to him, he saves people's lives.

1. The boy was in danger because he got lost.

2. Eddie does the same jobs as his father

Victor Salva, writer and director of the film Powder, says that he decided to make this film after hearing a radio programme about Albert Einstein. And the lead character - Powder (played by Sean Patrick Flannery) - certainly has many of the great scientist's characteristics. Powder is so called because of his very white skin.

He is so different from everyone else around him that the other students cannot accept him. But, fortunately, not everyone in Powder's new life is unfair. His teachers - Jessie Caldwell (Mary Steenburgen) and Donald Ripley (Jeff Goldblum) - notice his genius and the three become friends.

3. Salva was asked to make the film.

4. Two of Powder's teachers know that he is very clever.
