1 Exercise 1

A precise optical signal source can control the output power level to within 1 %. A laser is controlled by an input current to yield the power output.

The microprocessor compares the desired power level with a measured signal proportional to the laser power output obtained from a sensor, and controls the input current. Sketch the block diagram representing this control system.

2 Exercise 2

An automobile driver uses a control system to maintain the speed of the car at a prescribed level. Sketch a block diagram to illustrate this feedback system.

3 Exercise 3

Choose, observe and describe a feedback system using general block diagram (Fig.1). Write names of elements and signals e.g. actuator - hand, sensor - eye.
