WORKSHOP PANEL ON W A T E R J E T
The discussions were started by presentations of the following invited panel members:
Dr.E.Baba
Nagasaki Research & Development Center.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries,Japan Mr.A.Koops Marin,Netherlands Professor Dr.C.Kruppa TUB,Berlin, Germany. Mr.K.J.Minsaas Marintek.Norway
The purpose of the workshop was to liighlight the subject area and to ascertain i f a more concentrated effort should be devoted to the subject.
Though previous reports of the ITTC H S M V C o m m i t t e e s c o n t a i n e d comprehensive reviews o f the hydrodynamics of waterjets as well as discussions of the relevant model testing techniques, it was still felt that more light should be thrown on topics like:
The physical model of external and internal flow systems, hull-propulsor interaction effects, breakdown o f efficiency and interaction eIements, power prediction techniques, determination of propulsive coefficients,thrust/flow rate measurements, cross flow components and vortices generated at the inlet ramp, ventilation,seastate-speed criteria for
avoidance of air ingestion, cavitation characteristics, testing techninques for simulation of internal flow, impeller performance and numerical methods for calculation flush and ram inlets.
The panel members were invited to contribute within these fields. The presentations of the panel were followed by invited discussions and discussions from the floor.
Mr K.Minsaas was Chairman, and about 50 people attended the workshop.
PRESENTATIONS.
The written contributions and the contributions from the floor threw ligth upon current practice in design, model testing, and fullscale prediction of waterjets, but covered so different topics that the discussions in this report are presented in a rather random sequence. Two contributions have allready been published in volume 2 of the 20 th ITTC proceedings.
