T h ere is a rich lite ra tu re on m easu rin g m o istu re dynam ics in sandy soils b y th e e lectric resistan ce m eth o ds [4]. In P oland, how ever, th e a ir-o v en m eth o d is com m only used. This m eth o d yields good re su lts b u t is v e ry tim e-co nsum ing in field m ea su rem e n ts [2].
T he need of a ra p id pro ced u re for m ea su rin g m o istu re dynam ics in san d y soils in duced to w o rk o u t a m eth o d based on d e te rm in a tio n of electric resista n c e of soils. T he f irs t tests, re p o rte d e a rlie r [1], w ere successful, an d stim u la te d f u rth e r im p ro v e m e n t of th e in stru m e n ta tio n .
T he proposed m eth o d of m easu rin g m o istu re dynam ics in san d y soils is based on soil resistan ce d e te rm in a tio n w hich is m ea su red w ith a W h e at stone b rid g e fed b y a lte rn a tin g c u rre n t (Fig. 1 a). The use of a lte rn a tin g (instead of d irect) c u rre n t leads to elim in atio n of electro lysis on th e resistan ce m e a su re m e n t re su lts. A lte rn a tin g 30 V c u rre n t is tra n s m itte d to a soil sam ple b y tw o fla t m eta l electro des placed a t th e bo tto m of a c o n d u ctiv ity cell (Fig. 1 d). To th e soil sam ple placed in th is cell is applied a d efin ed am o u n t of p ressu re. B oth th e sam ple q u a n tity and th e p ressu re w hich it is e x e rte d on it do n o t in flu en ce th e re la tio n b e tw e en soil resistan ce an d its m o istu re. It is n ecessary to fix th ese tw o m ag n i tu d es fo r ever. T h e a u th o rs assum ed th e sam ple q u a n tity b eing 20 cm.3 w hich w as sub d u ed a p re s s u re of 3 A tm .
Soil resista n c e is re a d o n th e a p p a ra tu s scale in kiloohm s. Zero in d icato r of th e b rid g e is th e telep h o n e receiver. T u rn in g of th e m ovable a p p a ra tu s scale to th e a c tu a l v a lu e of soil resistan ce is signalized by sound fading in th e receiv er.

RESULTS
The in itia l in v estig ation s w ere p erfo rm ed in the lab o rato ry . Soil sam ple w ere w e tte d in d iffe re n t degree w ith distilled w a te r and th e ir electric resistan ce w as m easu red, th e ir m o istu re being d ete rm in e d by air-o v en m ethod.
T he re su lts o b tain ed can be p lo tted in a d iag ram p rese n tin g soil resistan ce as fu n ction of soil m oistu re: R = f (M). This calib ratio n curv e allow s to d eterm in e m o istu re of th e teste d sam ples from th e electric resistan ce m easu rin g d ata. T he fu n ctio n R(M), exp ressed by m ean s of lo g arithm ic coordinates, form s a s tra ig h t line (Fig. 2), so th a t two points — log R, log M — are a lre ad y su fficien t for d raw ing th e calib ratio n curve.

T hese m ea su rem e n ts com prised th e fu ll m o istu re scale of th e te ste d soil — fro m w a te r logged to a ir-d ry soils. 96 of th ese m easu rem en ts, m ad e w ith th e la te s t press m odel (Fig. 1 b), are given in T able 1. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS
T he com parison of m ea n soil m o istu re s o btain ed w ith bo th m ethod s, c a rrie d o u t b y th e S tu d e n t's test, show ed th a t th e y do not d iffe r signifi c a n tly fro m each o th e r (t° = 1,237 t0o! = 2,617). T able 2 con tains sta tistic a l ch a ra c te ristic s of tw o series of soil m o istu re m ea su rem e n ts (Table li) w hich w ere p e rfo rm e d b y th e electric and th e a ir-o v en m ethods.

In th is tab le we see th a t sam ple ch a ra c te ristic s are alm ost iden tical, i. e. b o th m ethod s g u a ra n te e equal p recision of m ea su rem e n t. The con fidence lim its, d e te rm in in g th o se lim its w ith in w hich th e valu e of m ean m o istu re of both popu lation s could be found, are considerab ly w id e r th a n th e d ifferen ce b e tw e en th em (0.040) o b tain ed from th e sam ple. V arian ce com parison b y F isc h e r’s te s t show ed also th a t th e re is no sig n ifican t d ifference b e tw e en th e re s u lts o b tained by both m eth ods
(F° = 1.02 < F o,oi = 1.59).
The m ea su rem e n ts of th e electric resistan ce of soil w ere ca rrie d o u t a t te m p e ra tu re s fro m 0°C to 30°C. It w as observed th a t te m p e ra tu re v a ria tio n s up to 5°C h ad no sig n ificant influence on th e resu lts of m easu rem en ts.
It is ev id e n t th a t th e described p ro ced u re re q u ire s in d iv id u al calib ratio n for e v e ry soil. N everth eless, th e e le c tro m etric m eth o d is q u ick er an d m o re con ven ient th a n th e a ir-o v en m eth o d and can th e re fo re be recom m en d ed for lo n g -lastin g in v estig atio n s of soil m o istu re dynam ics.
The a u th o rs believe th a t th is m eth od can be used for stu d y of m o istu re dynam ics in o th e r m in e ra l soils too.

Es wurde eine elektrom etrische M ethode zur M essung der Feuchtedynam ik in Sandböden entw ickelt. Sie beruht auf der Bestim m ung des elektrischen B oden widerstandes, der unter A nw endung einer W heatstonebriicke m ittels W echselstrom gem essen wird. D ie Bodenproben w erden in eine G efässelelektrode eingebracht und dort einem bestim m ten Druck unterworfen. D er von der Apparatskala abgelesene elektrische Bodenwiderstand wird m it einer vorgehend für die gegebene Probe angefertigten K alibrierkurve vergleichen und aus letzterer der Feuchtegehalt des Bodens in Prozent abgelesen. Die Methode arbeitet sehr präzise, ihre Ergebnisse stim m en m it jenen des Trockenenenverfahrens überein. Sie kann som it zu M essungen d er B odenfeuchtigkeit in stationären Verhältnissen em pfohlen werden.

R é s u m é
Une m éthode électrom étrique de m esurage a été m ise au point et appliquée à la dynam ique de l ’hum idité dans les sols sabloneux. La m éthode est basée sur le m esurage de la résistance du sol m esurée au m oyen d’un ohmm ètre à courant
alternatif, fonctionnant dans le systèm e du pont W heatstone. On place un échan tillon de sol dans l ’électrode en form e de récipient et on le soumet à une pression définia. La résistance exprim ée en kiloohm s et notée à l ’échelle de l ’appareil, est comparée avec la courbe de calibrage (tracés précédem m ent pour l’échantillon donné) sur laquelle on lit le pourcentage cfe l ’hum idité.
La m éthode est caractérisée par sa précision considérable et elle donne des résultats adéquats à ceux de la m éthode de séchoir. Cette m éthode peut donc être recom m andée pour les m esurages in situ de la dynam ique de l’hum idité des sols.

Opracowano elektrom etryczną m etodę pomiaru dynam iki w ilgotności gleb p ia szczystych. Metoda oparta jest na określaniu oporności gleby m ierzonej om om ie rzem prądu zm iennego pracującym w układzie m ostka W heatstone'a. Glebę um iesz cza się w elektrodzie naczyniowej i poddaje określonemu naciskow i. Odczytany ze skali aparatu opór elektryczny gleby porów nuje się z uprzednio w ykreśloną dla danej próbki krzywą kalibracji, z której odczytuje się procent w ilgotności. Metoda charakteryzuje się dużą precyzją oraz daje w yniki zbieżne z m etodą suszarkową. Może ona być zatem polecana do stacjonarnych pomiarów dynam iki w ilgotności gleb. Б . Метод основан на определении сопротивления почвы измеряемого омметром переменного тока работающим в системе мостика Уатстона. Почву помещается в сосудном электроде и подвергается определенному нажиму. Вычи сленное по ш кале аппарата электрическое сопротивление в килоомах сопоста вляется с предварительно вычерченной для данного образца кривой калибро вания, из которой производится отсчёт процента влажности. Метод характери зуется большой точностью и дает результаты сходные с результатами получен ными по сушильному методу. Рассматриваемый метод рекомендуется для лабо раторных измерений динамики влажности почв.
