Textbook: Daryl Cooper, Calculus and Mathematical Reasoning for Social and Life Sciences, Kendhall/Hunt Publishing Company, Dubuque, 2000

Lectures and Discussions: The MWF 12:00 PM - 12:50 PM period will be devoted to lectures on new material. Attendance in discussion is mandatory (M or T, depending on your section), there will be a 5 minute quiz at the beginning of each discussion.

Evaluation: approximately 25 short assignments, counting for a total of 15% of your mark, 3 quizzes, each counting for 15% of your mark for a total of 45%, and final examination counting for 40% of your mark. Participation in discussions will earn you an additional 5% towards your final grade – thus, theoretically, you may score as high as 105%.

Examinations: Three quizzes will take place on January 25th, February 15th and March 3rd. Durations of each test will be 50 minutes. All exeminations will be closed book: no calculators, notes or formula sheets will be permitted. Please be advised that cheating on an examination is considered a serious offence and can be met with disciplinary actions, including suspension or repulsion. All examinations will be “show all work” tests of up to 5 questions. There will be no make up exams.

Students who miss either one of the midterm exams for legitimate reasons will have the value of that examination transferred to the final examination thereby increasing the value of the final examination accordingly.

Homework: Problems will be assigned through the WebWork, approximately 10 per each meeting, and collected every day class meets.
