Teacher informs students that in this lesson they will talk about the United Kingdom. He/She asks students if they know anything about this country: Where is it situated? How big is it?
What famous people come from the UK?
Students share ideas in open class. Teacher can write some of them on the board.

Duration: 12 minutes
Students watch the film a second time. This time they should try and remember as many details as possible.

Teacher monitors and helps ifas necessary.
When students are ready, teacher asks two or three pairs to present what they have prepared in open class.
2.3. Extension of the target language – multiple matching Interaction forms: individual, pairs, whole class
Duration: 10 minutes
Teacher distributes worksheets to all students (see below). He/She explains that it contains additional information about the four countries making up the United Kingdom: students need to match the countries with the appropriate descriptions.
Students work individually, then compare ideas in pairs. Finally, the answers are checked in open class.
Teacher elicits from students famous landmarks associated with each country, i.e. England – Stonehenge, Northern Ireland – Giant’s Causeway, Scotland – Loch Ness, Wales – Snowdonia National Park. He/She asks them if they know any other tourist attractions, particularly in England (e.g. in London).
Match the parts of the United Kingdom 1–4 with their descriptions a–d, by putting the correct letter in the box provided.

England a It is in the north of the country. Much of its area is covered by mountains. The lake Loch Ness is located there. Its capital city is Edinburgh.2

2.4. Consolidation of the target language – crossword Interaction forms: individual

Teacher tells students that now they need to solve the crossword puzzle using the clues. To do that, they might need to look back at the previous tasks: the notes they took while watching the video material or the presentations they prepared in pairs.
The words used in the crossword are: London, Scotland, Wales, population, census, pound, queen, Union (Jack).
For homework, students are asked to do further research on the United Kingdom and find out five pieces of information that would be interesting for them, e.g. about sports, famous people, cuisine, etc.
