ear Parishioners and Friends,The first reading is from one of the four “Servant Songs” found in Second Isaiah. The historical setting is placed during the rise of Cyrus the Persian, who con- quered Babylon and introduced a new policy toward sub- ject peoples. Second Isaiah reflects hopefulness that Cy- rus will release the captives so that they may return to Judah. Today’s readings are reminiscent of the experienc- es of a contemporary prophet, Jeremiah, who may serve as a model. God has called this servant to speak words of encouragement to the people in exile. Despite being God’s prophet, the servant is beaten and spit upon. None- theless, He remains steadfast: “The Lord God is my help, therefore I am not disgraced.”
The second reading picks up the theme of obedience and suffering introduced in Isaiah 50. Paul encourages the Philippians to follow Christ’s example, citing portions of an early Christian hymn. Though He was “in the form of God,” Christ humbled Himself, choosing human appear- ance, and becoming obedient even unto death.
The Gospel of Mark has been called a “Passion Narra- tive with a long introduction,” due to the emphasis given to the passion of Jesus. In today’s Gospel reading, we hear the entire Passion according to Mark, which will be variously adopted by Matthew and Luke. The narrative can be separated into six separate scenes: the anointing and betrayal, the Last Supper, the Garden of Gethsemane and arrest, the interrogation and torture of Jesus, the cru- cifixion and death, and finally the burial. Throughout the Gospel of Mark, the evangelist has intertwined the por- trayal of the disciples with Jesus’ predictions and passion.
In today’s reading, the full meaning of discipleship is made clear: discipleship requires embracing the Cross.

ochani ParafianieNiedzielą Palmową rozpoczynamy w Kościele Wielki Tydzień, ostatni czas bezpośredniego przygotowania do świętowania Zmartwychwstania Pańskiego. Mamy dzisiaj bardzo bogatą Liturgię Słowa.
Czytane są dwie ewangelie: Mk 11,1-10 i Mk 14,1-15,47.
Na ich podstawie przyjrzyjmy się jaka jest droga Jezusa w ostatnich dniach Jego ludzkiego, ziemskiego życia. W ewangelii na wejście Jezus wjeżdża do Jerozolimy. Jest witany przez tłum krzyczący Hosanna.
Za chwilę jednak radosne Hosanna zamieni się w Ukrzyżuj Go. Zanim to nastąpi Jezus świadomy już tego, co Go czeka, idzie do swoich przyjaciół w Betanii, by się z nimi pożegnać. Spotyka się też na ostatniej wieczerzy ze swoimi uczniami. Jeden z apostołów podczas tej uczty wychodzi i zdradza Go za 30 srebrników, co w przeliczeniu na dzisiejszą wartość daje ok. 3000 dolarów.
To nie koniec zdrad. Piotr, ten który cały czas towarzyszy Jezusowi, zapiera się znajomości ze swoim Mistrzem.
Robi to najprawdopodobniej z lęku przed karą dla siebie.
Po tych zdarzeniach Jezus zostaje pojmany. Jest niesłusznie oskarżany i sądzony przez Piłata. Zostaje wydany na Niego wyrok: śmierć na krzyżu. Jezus wyrusza w drogę na Golgotę dźwigając krzyż, do którego ma być przybity. W tej drodze spotyka tłum widzów, Szymona z Cyreny, który przymuszony pomaga Mu w niesieniu krzyża, Weronikę ocierającą twarz. W końcu dociera na wzgórze i wyrok dokonuje się. Jezus umiera.
Dzisiejsza ewangelia nie kończy się happy endem.
Może są przy Jezusie ci, którzy chcą powiedzieć: to nie tak miało być. Ale cała ta droga Jezusa, bardzo trudna i samotna jest bramą, przez którą On przechodzi, by po 3 dniach zmartwychwstać. Podejmuje się tej drogi jako jedynej możliwej, aby człowiek uwierzył w miłość Boga, w to, że jest dla Niego ważny, że nawet upadek nie jest przeszkodą na spotkanie z Nim.
W całym powyższym kontekście odpowiedz sobie dzisiaj na pytania: Kim dla mnie jest Jezus? Jak ja towarzyszę Jemu w drodze? Kim jestem na tej drodze?
Jaka jest moja droga? Dokąd idę?

Sacrament of Reconciliation: One-half hour before daily Mass in the Chapel, Monday—Thursday and on Saturday from 3:00– 3:45 p.m. in Church; or by appointment.
Anointing of the Sick and the Eucharist: Please call the parish office to arrange for Communion, Confession, and/or Anointing of the Sick. Parishioners who are planning surgery should contact the priest to receive the Anointing of the Sick before the surgery.
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults): All adults who are discerning readiness to join the Catholic Church and are interested in becoming Catholic or completing their sacra- ments should call the Parish Office. All are welcome.
Religious Education Classes (CCD): Children not attending Catholic School are educated in the faith through our Religious Education Program. Please contact the Office of Religious Education and leave a message at 594-1400 Ext. 4.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE AN "ACTIVE CATHOLIC?"
Frequently, those seeking to celebrate Marriage, have children baptized or serve as sponsors for Confirmation or Baptism request a letter stating that they are parishioners. To receive such a letter, one must be registered and in our parish records, attend Mass regularly, & be committed to a stewardship of time/talent/treasure. If you would like to become a registered parishioner, please consider filling out a registration/census form located on the table in the back of the Church.
Parish Membership: We welcome new parishioners and all who wish to join our Parish Family. To register, call or visit the Parish Office. Registration forms are available on the table in the back of the Church. Please drop the form in the collec- tion basket or mail it to the Parish Office.
Holy Rosary Society: Members attend Mass monthly on
the Sunday following First Friday. Recitation of the Rosary begins one-half hour before Mass. New members are always welcome. For more information call the Parish Office at 302- 594-1400, ext. 0.
Knights of Columbus, Pope John Paul Council 7608: Meets the second Tuesday of every month. Mass at 6:30 pm in the Chapel, followed by meeting. New members welcome. Contact John Kwiatkowski, Grand Knight.
Our Lady, Queen of Peace Prayer Group: Meets on Thurs- day evenings immediately following the 6:30 p.m. Mass in the Chapel. All are welcome to join us in prayer.
