Internal transport of materials and product components in relation to the factory layout at B.V. Machinefabriek Figee has been analysed. Literary research on factory layout problems has taken place, whereby special attention has been paid to the method Systematic Layout Planning.
Internal transport of materials for the benefit of preliminary production activities takes place along machines and is sufficiently efficient. The transport distance (as important factor for Systematic Layout Planning) is of no importance, because the transport time is inconsiderable compared with the lifting and putting down of the material.
A new space planning method for product components has been developed, namely location assignment to construction components. Two alternatives have been worked out, whereby considerable internal transport manhour reductions have been found. Furthermore, a conceptual model has been written for production planning and production control.
The concept has been designed integrally by taking the product as starting point. The conceptual model developed illustrates the advantage of internal integration of information between several company departments.
In the end, as an illustration, one partial function of the concept has been implemented in a computer program from which it appears that is is simply possible to translate the functions into a computer program.
