MEMORIES OF MIROSŁAWA GAZIŃSKA

Professor Mirosława Urszula Gazińska (1961–2013) was born in Nowogard, studied in Poznań, and continued her professional career in Szczecin.

Professor Mirosława Gazińska received the following scientific degrees

 Master of Economic Sciences – 1985, Eco-nomic Academy in Poznań (Poznań University of Economics),

 Doctor of Economics – 1993, University of Szczecin (specialty: econometrics)

 Habilitated Doctor of Economic Sciences – 2003, University of Szczecin (specialty: demo-graphics, socio-economic statistics, econometrics). She wrote her doctoral dissertation about:

Problem of linearity and non-linearity causal rela-tionship in the econometric modeling of the eco-nomic activities of the company. Professor Józef Hozer was the supervisor. The

habilitation monograph was titled Demographic potential in the region.

Quanti-tative analysis. Professor Jadwiga Suchecka and Professor Jan Paradysz were the

reviewers of this work.

Professor Mirosława Gazińska 

A wide spectrum of scientific interests of Mirosława Gazińska included. The following areas :

a) pre-doctoral

 analytic functions in micro-econometric models, b) post-doctoral

 regional demography and social statistics,

 analysis and classification of statistical data – taxonomy,

 quantitative methods in the financial and economic analysis of enter-prise.

The most important achievements of Miro-sława Gazińska include :

 authorship and co-authorship of over 140 scientific publications,

 co-authorship of many didactic publications in the field of quantitative subjects,

 preparation of over 100 expertise and finan-cial and economic analyses (in cooperation with business practice),

 promoting 424 students and master`s students,  promoting 4 PhD students

 participation in the elaboration of a strategy for Szczecin and Zachodniopomorskie voivod-ship in the field of demography.

Professor Mirosława Gazińska supervised the work and doctoral dissertations of the following PhD students: Magdalena Kulbaczewska (Health tourism market in context

of the aging process of the population, 2012),

Przemysław Szczuciński (Relationship between

structural changes of the small and medium-sized enterprises and regional development in Poland modeling, 2010), Piotr Obidziński

(Quantitative methods in the study of the impact

of changes in environmental factors of the pen-sion system to the demand Demographic Reserve Fund, 2010), Marta Hozer-Koćmiel (Statistical analysis of the allocation of time and the value of women's work, 2007). The latter two of the

above-mentioned persons work at the Faculty of Economics and Management, University of Szczecin.

Mirosława Gazińska at work 

Mirosława Gazińska fulfilled many functions which resulted from her nu-merous activities. Let us mention here just the most important ones:

 Head of Demography Team (later the Department of Statistics and De-mography),

 Head of the Non-resident Didactic Centre in Wałcz,  Vice Dean for Student Affairs,

 Vice-Rector for Student Affairs,

 Member of the Section of Classification and Data Analysis PSA (Polish Statistical Association),

Memories of Mirosława Gazińska  97  President of Branch of the Polish Statistical As-sociation in Szczecin,

 Member of the General Council for Polish Sta-tistical Association,

 Member of the Committee on Demographic Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences,

 Adviser for the Statistical Office in Szczecin. After receiving her doctorate Professor Gazińska became interested in demography. In this field she conducted research and wrote many scientific works, including her habilitation monograph. In the Faculty of Economics and Management University of Szczecin, she initiated and developed this field. She also inspired and encouraged many young academics to study de-mography.

Mirosława Gazińska was an extremely hardwork-ing and calm person. She was also a perfectionist - everything had to be prepared very well and

deliv-ered on time. That is probably why she had very little free time. Yet , whenever it was possible she realized her great passion for travel travelling widely in Poland and abroad, and for mountaineering.

rious illness on 26 September, 2013. In such a short time she managed to do so much. The author, on her behalf and the workers of the Institute of Economet-rics and Statistics, University of Szczecin would like to express thanks to the organizers of XXXIII Scien-tific Conference on Multivariate Statistical Analysis MSA 2014 in Łódź for the opportunity to present the profile and remind us of our friend Mirka.
