In connection with investigations organised by the Parasitological Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences on trichinellosis in Poland arose the necessity of exact estimation of infestation-extend of trichinellosis in people of Pola!ld, The scope of investigations carried in our Department was to establish the percentage of people infested with Trichinella among patients died in Warsaw hospitals.
The mentioned investigations were carried between March 18th, 1959 and January 22nd, 1960 comprising 1014 people of both sexes and various ages. These

people died with various diseases - not trichinosis. Samples from the diaphragm and intercostal muscles were taken for examination. Each sample was examined trichinoscopically and using the digestion method. In 42 cases encapsulated and more or less calcified Trichinella spiralis larvae were encountered. Positive results make 4,14% of the total number of examined people.

The enclosed table illustrates the results of investigations in people of both sexes and different ages. In people died between 30-40 years of age only one case of trichinellosis was found, whereas in people younger than 30 years no Trichinella was encountered. The greatest incidence of infestation was found in peop]e who died between 50-80 years of age. The incidence was about 0,5
° /
0 higher in women than in men.The intensity of infestation was, in generał, not too great. The number of para- sites per gram of muscle tissue varied from few to several. In three cases more significant infestation was found. One case of extremely numerous infestation deserves mentioning. In a man of 55-1984 Trichinel/a larvae were found in 1 gram of intercostal muscles tissue .
Considering • the results of these investigations and the appearence of parasites a conclusion might be drawn that in majority of cases of trichinellosis found in our materiał - infestation with parasites took place during the war-time occupa- tion of our Country or in the period of time immediately after the war.
