Die Angaben über die 4 älteren J u p i t e r t r a b a n t e n be
ruhen auf den Tafeln von R . A . S a m p s o n ( Tables of the four great Satelliies of Jupiter. London 1910), die Angaben über die 8 älteren S a t u r n s a t e l l i t e n auf den von H. und G. S t r u v e sowie von J. W o l t j e r erm ittelten W erten (Näheres s. Erläuterungen).
In allen Ephem eriden der Sonne, der Planeten und der F ix sterne sind die kurzperiodischen, von der Mondlänge abhängigen N utationsglieder weggelassen; doch bietet das Jahrbuch die Mög
lichkeit, auch diese weggelassenen Glieder zu berücksichtigen (s. Erläuterungen).
D er In h alt des Jahrbuchs h at gegen das V orjah r keine w esent
lichen Änderungen erfahren, jedoch ist zu erwähnen, daß vom vorliegenden Jahrgang ab die Z eitgleichung im Sinne wahre Zeit minus m ittlere Z eit gegeben ist, also m it dem entgegengesetzten Vorzeichen wie bisher. F erner sind alle Tafeln, die bisher auf das N orm aläquinoktium 1925.0 bezogen waren, vom vorliegenden Jahrgang ab auf das N orm aläquinoktium 1950.0 bezogen. Neu aufgenom m en sind Zusam m enstellungen astronom ischer K o n stanten und der Bahnelem ente der großen P lan eten sowie Vorausberechnungen der Ein- und A ustrittszeiten der Stern
bedeckungen durch den Mond für Breslau und F ran kfu rt a. M. Zum Ausgleich sind die m ittleren Ö rter der Sterne, die vom Monde be
deckt werden, und die E lem ente der Sternbedeckungen w eggefallen.
Bezüglich der Zahlengrundlagen sei auf die im Berliner Jahr
buch für 1916 gegebene D arstellung der »Grundbegriffe der Sphä
rischen Astronomie« hingewiesen.
Ein Teil der Angaben wurde seitens der Am erican Ephemeris and N autical A lm anac, W ashington, des N autical A lm anac Office, L o n don, und des Bureau des Longitudes, Paris, zur V erfügung gestellt.
Die Schriftleitu n g des Astronom ischen Jahrbuchs für 1938 lag in den H änden von Prof. Dr. K o h l; an den verschiedenen A rbeiten beteiligten sich außerdem die Herren Dr. M ü lle r , Dr. B a e h r und mehrere H ilfsarbeiter.
