Badania geotermalne w oBszarze stanu gujarat – indie z wykorzystaniem metody magnetotellurycznej
badania magnetotelluryczne. We współpracy z naukowcami Uniwersytetu w Salt Lake City, Utah, wykonano
trójwymiarową inwersję danych magnetotellurycznych, której wyniki znacząco poprawiły obrazowanie struktur niskooporowych kojarzonych ze strefami o korzystnych warunkach geotermalnych i pozwoliły na wskazanie spodziewanych optymalnych warunków lokali- zacji produkcyjnego otworu wiertniczego.

geothermal research in the area of the gujarat in india using the magnetotelluric method
The geological structure of the North-Western part of India, where the Gujarat state is lo- cated, qualifies this area as prospective for obtaining geothermal energy. In this tectonically active region, the relatively young rift zone occurs, which is buried under a thin cover of wet sediments. This area is the subject of the research performed by the University in Gandhi- nagar (PDPU – Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, CEGE – Centre of Excellence for Geothermal Energy) financed by an international research project. Within the framework of that project, a magnetotelluric survey was performed by the PBG Geophysical Exploration.
Measurements using the natural electromagnetic field were carried out in three regions: Dho- lera, Gandhar and Unai, where the favorable conditions for the location of geothermal in- stallations were expected. The detailed magnetotelluric survey was carried out in two stages.
The first stage included the acquisition and interpretation of magnetotelluric data along the measurement profiles. The results of 2D research allowed for the identification of the areas with the highest geothermal potential. Based on them, the decision to perform the second stage using the 3D methodology was taken, allowing for the spatial identification of the geo- logical structures. The additional magnetotelluric soundings, which complemented the 2D survey were performed at the geothermal field – Unai. The three-dimensional magnetotellu- ric data inversion was made in collaboration with scientists from the University of Salt Lake City in Utah. These results significantly improved the imaging of low-resistivity structures associated with the zones of favorable geothermal conditions and allowed for an indication of the expected optimal conditions of the production borehole location.
