PREFACE

With the publication o f Volume I I I o f the Proceedings o f the 22nd International Towing Tank Conference, the work o f the Organizing Committee comes to an end. The members o f the Organizing Committee, looking back at the last three years, feel satisfaction for having concluded the meeting without much flaws. On this occasion the Organizing Committee would like to thanJc the delegates to the Conference and their accompanying persons for their enthusiastic participation in the technical program and the social program.

The 22nd ITTC was the first occasion that the ITTC had taken place in two countries. The first half o f the Conference was held i n Seoul, Korea fi-om 5 to 7 September, and after transferring all o f the delegates by plane on 8 September, the Conference continued i n Shanghai, China until 11 September. A total o f one hundred eighty four delegates from twenty six countries attended, and there were sixty one accompanying persons. We felt a little uneasy for imforeseeable difficulties which might arise during the transition o f all o f the delegates and accompanying persons from Seoul to Shanghai. Thanks to tiie patience and cooperation shown by everybody, everytiiing went smootiily. Despite o f such a hassle i n the change i n the venue, we take pleasure in having been able to offer tiie participants an opportunity to observe the oriental cultture for a week and wish that everyone enjoyed i t .

We received support from the sponsors, and tiiis really made it possible for us to put out a productive meeting. These sponsors are listed on the title page o f tiiis Volume. We also extend our sincere tiianks to the Korea Research Instimte o f Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO) for excellent assistance in preparing tiie ITTC newsletter, I T T C home page and tiie tiiree volumes o f tiie Proceedings. We would particularly like to acknowledge the support o f the Society o f Naval Architects o f Korea and the China Ship Scientific Research Center tiiroughout the three years o f preparation and execution o f the Conference.

With our work done, we look forward to having our continued association with the ITTC i n fiiture years. Choung M . Lee Chairman, 22"'' I T T C Executive Committee Seimg - II Yang Secretary,
