Thirty First Sunday in Ordinary Time

The month of November begins with All Saints Day and All Souls Day. On both days we think about and pray to and for people who once lived here on earth, where we are, and who have gone off to the next world. In fact the Church recommends that we remember the dead in a special way during the entire month of November.

This year we will again set up a shrine for the dead on the al- tar of the Sacred Heart. Parishion- ers are invited to bring framed photos of their beloved deceased to adorn this altar in a size no larger than 5”x7” to be displayed at this shrine for the entire month. These photos will be surrounded by can- dles and flowers and will be a place where people can come and pray for the dead. At the end of the month the photos will be returned to their owners. When someone we love or who has had a great effect on our lives dies, we hold their memory dear. When we remember them we should not only think about events in their lives with us here in the past but we should pray for them. These prayers ex- press our Catholic Faith that one day we will be with them again.

The beautiful prayers from the Mass for the Dead remind us that in death, life is changed NOT end- ed.
