Reading

The Coen brothers

Joel and Ethan Coen are American film-makers. Theywrite, direct and produce films together. Since 1984,they have made almost 20 films and have receivedmore than 30 Oscar nominations.

The brothers were born in Minnesota in the USA. Joelwas born in 1954 and Ethan in 1957. After finishinghigh school in Minnesota, Joel studied Film-Makingat New York University and Ethan studied Philosophyat Princeton University in New Jersey.

They made their first film in 1984, but their first reallysuccessful film was Raising Arizona, starring NicolasCage and Holly Hunter, made in 1987. The Coenbrothers became famous in 1996 when theyproduced and directed the hit film Fargo, starringFrances McDormand, who is also Joel’s wife.

She wona best actress Oscar for her performance in this film.Two years later, the Coen brothers wrote, directedand produced a film called The Big Lebowski, starringJeff Bridges.

In 2001, they made a black and white film calledThe Man Who Wasn’t There. A lot of film critics thinkthat this is their best film. Perhaps their most famousfilm is the 2007 western No Country for Old Men. In thisfilm, one of the characters finds $2 million of stolenmoney and decides to keep it. Some other people arelooking for the money, including Javier Bardem, whoplays the part of a killer. Bardem won an Oscar for hisperformance in this film.

In 2010, the Coen brothers directed and producedanother western called True Grit. The film was nominatedfor 10 Oscars, but, unfortunately, it didn’t win any.

Topic: Making friends.

Wprowadzenie nowego slownictwa.

Jedną z trudności jakie napotykają osoby uczące się języka angielskiego jest poprawne

wykorzystywanie kolokacji, czyli połączenie dwóch lub więcej słów w logicznie brzmiącą całość.

Pewne kombinacje słów brzmią naturalnie dla native speakerów, a dziwnie dla obcokrajowców, niemniej uczniowie angielskiego muszą się ich nauczyć, ponieważ są one często trudne do

odgadnięcia. Niektóre kombinacje brzmią "źle" dla native speakerów języka angielskiego, mimo że nam wydają sie całkiem logiczne.

Dzisiaj nauczymy się takich połączeń słów, składających się z czasownika i rzeczownika, oczywiście trzeba będzie zapamiętać te wyrażenia, np.: take photo – zrobić zdjęcie( choć wiemy, że take znaczy dosłownie: brać/ wziąć)

Z podręcznika (ćw. 1 str.86) przepisujecie do zeszytu przykłady i tłumaczycie, korzystając ze słownika ze str.126 w podręczniku. Ćwiczymy wymowę tych wyrażeń, słuchając nagrania( nr 2.29) Następnie wykonujecie ćw. 3 i 4 str. 86
