PREVIOUS WORK P r e v i o u s w o r k on t h e e f f e c t o f t h e p r o p o s e d c r i t e r i a on d r y c a r g o s h i p s was s u b m i t t e d t o IMO by t h e U n i t e d K i n g d o m i n an i n f o r m a t i o n p a p e r , SLF 3 2 / 3 / 7 . A l t h o u g h t h e n u m b e r o f v e s s e l s i n t h e UK i n f o r m a t i o n p a p e r r e p r e s e n t s a s m a l l s a m p l e ( e i g h t s h i p s ) t h e r e s u l t s a r e c o n s i d e r e d i l l u s t r a t i v e f o r t y p i c a l v e s s e l s o f t h e t y p e c o n c e r n e d a n d e x p e r i e n c e has i n d i c a t e d t h a t s i m i l a r r e s u l t s w o u l d be o b t a i n e d i f t h e s a m p l e w e r e e x t e n d e d .
