AT THE JOHN PAUL II CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF LUBLIN: REPORT FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2015/2016

In the reporting academic year, the Institute of Spiritual Theology of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin consisted of two chairs: the Chair of Theology of Systematic and Practical Spirituality (director: Rev. Prof. Marek Chmielewski) and the Chair of History of Spirituality (director: Rev. Dr. hab. Jarosław M. Popławski). In the previous academic year, the Institute of Spiritual Theology staff included six full-time academic teachers: two full professors, two associate professors, one holder of postdoctoral degree and one assistant professor — Rev. Dr. Jan Miczyński. In the reporting year, Rev. Marek Chmielewski receiv-ed the title of associate professor.

In the academic year 2015/2016 the Institute staff published 45 scientific papers (in-cluding books, articles, and encyclopedia article entries), while 65 scientific papers, includ-ing encyclopedia article entries, were printed. Also 23 popular science articles were pub-lished. Staff members of the Institute were also the authors of scientific reviews, editorial reviews, reviews of doctoral and postdoctoral dissertations, introductions and translations. The second issue of Spiritualitas is in preparation.

In the reporting year, the Institute organized three conferences:

1. Scientific conference Saint Nicholas Bishop in the Culture and Spirituality of

Europe held as part of the XXXVIII Spiritual Days (3-4 December 2015);

2. II Symposium held as part of the series Spirituality of the Holy Land — Pilgrim (24 May 2016);

3. Scientific conference on the 300th anniversary of the death of St. Louis-Marie

Grignion de Montfort (1673-1716) and the 30th anniversary of the Legion of Mary’s

evangelization in the Archdiocese of Lublin (28 April 2016).

During these conferences and outside the university, including several international meetings, the Institute staff delivered 38 lectures, including 11 lectures delivered at inter-national conferences.

One of the most important events in the reporting year was obtaining the title of pro-fessor of theological sciences by Rev. M. Chmielewski (nomination on 23 February

2016). Rev. Chmielewski took part as a consultant in the Team for the Enthronement Movements of the Polish Episcopate Conference. Moreover, he has been conducting the popularization of spirituality through a series of broadcasts in Radio Maryja “Duc in Altum!” since 2003. In the reporting year a total of 53 quarters of episodes were prepared and broadcast. The Institute leads the Post-Graduate Studies on Catholic Spirituality, popu-lar among people from all over Poland. The lecturers are the greatest specialists and ex-perts in spiritual life from various centers in Poland. The employees of the Institute have conducted retreats and conferences at home and abroad, not only in parish communities, but also in religious houses and seminars, and supported pastoral and formative publica-tions. The Institute cooperated with secular and church institutions, such as Center for Spiritual Formation of the Archdiocese of Lublin, Centers of Evangelization, Pallottine School of New Evangelization in Lublin, Metropolitan Seminary in Lublin, and Publish-ing House “Gaudium.”
