Six weeks into our Easter rejoicing, the Church gives us readings today that start preparing us for a return to ordinary life. The Acts of the Apostles and the Gospel both dwell on proper daily behavior for followers of Jesus, while the reading from
Revelation reminds us why we bother with laws at all. In Acts, leaders of the church meet to discuss which essential elements of the Mosaic Law converts must obey if they wish to be disciples of Jesus Christ.
John’s Gospel reflects back to the Last Supper discourse when Jesus himself emphasizes the importance of obeying God’s commandments. Observing God’s law, says Jesus, shows a desire to be intimate with the Lord. We follow rules not for their own sake, but to love God and neighbor better. This more excellent love brings us closer to Revelation’s vision of paradise, gleaming with “the splendor of God.” Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

contemporary man is in danger of spiritual indifference and death of conscience. The death of conscience is something even more

In ancient Rome, the beautiful month of May was dedicated to the goddess Flora, the patroness of flowers
and new life. May 1 was considered the beginning of abundant growth, and a day for public festivals aimed at expelling winter. Even after Christianity took hold, the customs of the pagan feast lingered behind. Long ago, there
was a thirty-day devotion to Mary, sometimes called “Lady Month,” which began on August 15. By the eighteenth century, the custom of assigning devotions to months of the year was developing. June, for example, was the month of the Sacred Heart, and October was for the Holy Rosary. Beginning with the Jesuit Order in Rome and spreading throughout the world, May has been celebrated as the month of Mary, the Blessed Mother, for more than two hundred years. That was a welcome remedy to some enduring pagan practices, such as maypole dancing and the crowning of the May Queen. W ostatnich dniach głównym przesłaniem Pana Jezusa w liturgii Słowa Bożego jest przykazanie miłości i modlitwa, abyśmy byli jedno! Pamiętajmy, że nie ma jedności bez miłości Boga i bliźniego! Św. Jan Paweł II
powiedział kiedyś: „Gdzie nie ma ofiarności i wyrzeczenia, tam nie ma i nie będzie miłości, jedności i rozwoju duchowego. Człowiekowi współczesnemu grozi duchowa znieczulica, a nawet śmierć sumienia. Śmierć sumienia jest czymś gorszym od grzechu”. Słowa św. Jana Pawła II były i są prorocze! Módlmy się więc o miłość, jedność i rozwój duchowy dla nas wszystkich! Niech na kolejne dni, tygodnie i miesiące Pan Bóg nam wszystkim obficie błogosławi!

POSŁUSZEŃSTWO DUCHOWI BUDUJE KOŚCIÓŁ
Rozważając tajemnicę Kościoła, widzimy, że nie jest w nim najważniejsze to, co jest widoczne dla oczu, ale wewnętrzne działanie Ducha Świętego. Ludzie tworzą Kościół, ale to Duch Święty prowadzi go według swego upodobania. Jest pierwszorzędnym autorem jego dziejów.
Łatwo zapomnieć o obecności Ducha Bożego w Kościele. Dzieje się
tak wtedy, gdy pojawiają się w nim różne i sprzeczne opinie, a o przywództwo ubiegają się zwolennicy odmiennych przekonań.
Pierwotny Kościół nie był wolny od sporów i zatargów, i jak pisał Łukasz były one niemałe (pierwsze czytanie). Różni ludzie, nawet w dobrzej wierze, pragnęli zawładnąć Kościołem Pana. Raz po raz pojawia się pokusa, aby Kościół potraktować jak superpaństwo i narzucić swe poglądy innym. Pojawiają się tacy, którzy głoszą, że zbawienie będzie możliwe jedynie, jeśli Kościół przyjmie ich dyktat.
Bóg nie pozwala, aby ludzie zniweczyli wspólnotę, którą Chrystus nabył za cenę swej krwi. Duch Święty zawsze pojawia się jako najważniejszy protagonista wydarzeń. Apostołowie zażegnali niebezpieczeństwo ostrego konfliktu, okazując posłuszeństwo
Duchowi Świętemu. Wystarczyło wsłuchać się w Jego wolę i ucichły niepotrzebne niesnaski.
O konieczności posłuszeństwa Duchowi Świętemu w Kościele mówi również Jezus (Ewangelia). By być uczniem Jezusa i z Nim budować Kościół, trzeba oddać się do dyspozycji Duchowi Świętemu w szczerości i prawdzie.
Trzeba Mu zawierzyć. On jest najlepszym nauczycielem. Pan ukazuje Go jako Tego, który uchroni wierzących przed zamętem i niepokojem.
Posłuszni Duchowi Świętemu będziemy już dziś mogli budować wspólnotę, o której pisze Święty Jan (drugie czytanie). Piękno niebieskiego Jeruzalem wypływa ze zjednoczenia z Bogiem. Dołączymy w nim do niezliczonej rzeszy świętych, którzy żyją dla chwały Boga. ks. Zbigniew Sobolewski

Kiedy słońce ukazuje się temu, który do tej pory pozostawał w ciemnościach, to otrzymuje światło dla swoich cielesnych oczu i wyraźnie widzi to, czego przedtem nie dostrzegał. Podobnie i ten, który został uznany godnym daru Ducha Świętego, zostaje oświecony na duszy i wyniesiony ponad to, co ludzkie, widzi to, co dotąd było mu nieznane.
