FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK....
Dear Parishioners,
50 years ago, I was not yet born. However, some of you can say you got married, bought a house, had your first child. And some of you can say you were at St. Thomas Becket with Fr. Frank Wachowski, celebra"ng the very first Mass at the newly established parish.
From humble beginnings to the fulfillment of a dream a parish was established. Through many years, as the parish statement says: "St. Thomas Becket is a community of believers united in Christ, who dedicate ourselves to proclaim the Good News and foster a sense of belonging. As we gather together in prayer and worship, we draw our nourishment from His word and the Bread of His Table. With shared responsibility we go forth to serve and affirm our sisters and brothers. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we strive to build the Kingdom of God within and beyond our parish."
What a profound and true statement to describe our parish. Today, as we all celebrate this community's 50th anniversary, we are all thankful for the gi% of faith, caring love and friendship with people that we call our brothers and sisters. Let us remember in this church, in this newly renovated sacred space, the experienced joy of celebra"ng bap"sms, first communions, confirma"ons, and weddings, the nourishment from the Eucharist, and the sadness of death as we supported those who mourn. Let us also look with great joy and hope to the future, towards the many more extraordinary moments that will take place here.
It is my great joy to welcome in our parish His Eminence, Blase Cardinal Cupich, Bishop Alberto Rojas, and all priests who through many years joyfully witnessed the love of Christ to the people of God. I am grateful for their presence, their loving dedica"on, and their open hearts to help in the many different ways here at St. Thomas Becket Parish.
May God Bless St. Thomas Becket Parish as we make history and cross the threshold of our church on the 50th Anniversary Celebra"on. ~~~ Fr Chris

Drodzy Parafianie,
Z poczuciem wspólnego obowiązku podążamy w służbie naszym braciom i siostrom.
doświadczyliśmy radości pokarmu Eucharys/i, celebracji chrztów, pierwszych komunii, bierzmowań i ślubów, oraz smutku śmierci, gdy wspieraliśmy tych, którzy byli pogłębieni w żałobie. Oczekujmy także z wielką radością i nadzieją naszej przyszłości i tych niezwykłych chwil, które będą miały miejsce tutaj.
Z wielką radością witam w naszej parafii Jego Eminencję, Blase kardynała Cupich, biskupa Alberto Rojas i kapłanów, którzy przez wiele lat radośnie świadczyli o miłości Chrystusa do ludu Bożego.
~~~ Ks. Krzysztof

TAPESTRY OF ST. THOMAS A’ BECKET
In the summer of 1975 my priest-friend, Fr. Gene Winkowski and I traveled to England to study monas"c history.
Being a history-buff, I had to go and see Canterbury Cathedral about 50 miles outside of London. This is where St. Thomas Becket was martyred on December 29, 1170. In order to cut down on expenses, we stayed in a parish rectory in a suburb called Cockfesters. We had a car so it was easy to travel to Canterbury. One of the important items to see was the stained glass window of Thomas Becket in the Cathedral. We did so as we marveled the beau"ful color in the stained glass image of him. We also went to pray at the sight where he was killed in the Cathedral. When we returned to the London rectory, the pastor noted that I had bought a post card of the St. Thomas window. I told him I was bringing this back to my pastor, Fr. Frank Wachowski so that he could decide on an image to have for our parish, St. Thomas Becket. The London pastor noted that the sisters in his parish convent did Tapestries and that they would be worth viewing. Maybe a Tapestry would be considered of St. Thomas Becket.
In any case, Fr. Gene and I went to the convent; when we entered we were both amazed at the excellent work they
had accomplished. That is when I had this brainstorm that I would commission them to do a modern design of St. Thomas Becket from the postcard I bought. The sister said yes and also men"oned that no one had commissioned them to do so the St. Thomas Becket window.
The tapestry was for me, but secretly I wanted to see if Fr. Frank would like it. A year later the tapestry was delivered. It was awesome! My tapestry simply says: Becket. It is one of a kind and by now it is valued at 20 "mes more by an art appraiser. I showed it to Fr. Frank, who immediately fell in love with it.
He wondered if the sisters would do another one. He simply wished it to say: St. Thomas a’ Becket. The sisters said yes and one year later in 1977 it was delivered to the parish. As I was scheduled to leave to be assigned to the Chicago Medical Center, my parents and I decided to make this tapestry a gi% to St. Thomas Becket Parish as I said farewell to my first assignment as a priest.
And so, this is the story of how St. Thomas a’ Becket parish in Mt. Prospect received the tapestry.
It is one of a kind because the parish one says St. Thomas a’ Becket on it. My tapestry is also one of a kind because it simply says Becket. If mine is valued at 20 "mes more in our "me, then, the parish tapestry must be the same.
I was told to protect it from deteriora"on. One must keep it away from sunlight and windy open areas. All in all, I’m happy that the people of St. Thomas Becket fell in love with this gi%.
