Topic :Defining relative clauses.
Stosujemy je, by podać dodatkowe informacje
who (kto),
which (który),
where (gdzie),
when (kiedy)
whose (czyj)
that zastępuje: who, which
Relative clauses po polsku nazywamy czasami „zdaniami względnymi” (dosłowne
tłumaczenie z języka angielskiego), chociaż poprawna nazwa tej konstrukcji to
„zdanie podrzędnie złożone przydawkowe”.
Jak tworzymy relative clauses?
Relative clauses tworzymy poprzez „sklejenie” ze sobą dwóch zdań. A łącznikiem są zaimki
względne (relative pronouns) właśnie, czyli wspomniane powyżej who, which, where, when, whose, i that.
Przyjrzyjmy się poniższym dwóm zdaniom:
My friend studies medicine. (Moja koleżanka studiuje medycynę)
She is beautiful. (Ona jest piękna.)
Można powiedzieć takie dwa zdania po sobie. Niby poprawnie i zrozumiale, ale dużo lepiej byłoby skleić te dwa proste zdania w jedno:
My friend who studies medicine is beautiful.
Kiedy użyć odpowiednich zaimków względnych:
who - kto, który, która - używamy wyłącznie w odniesieniu do ludzi ( aby opisać osobę) which - który, która, które” ale używamy wyłącznie w odniesieniu do rzeczy, zjawisk, czynności, nigdy do osób. ( aby opisać rzecz)
that (też… który, która, które…) jest „zastępcą”, którym zastąpić możemy jedno i drugie (zarówno who jak i which).
Na przykład:
The people who live next door are friendly. (Ludzie, którzy mieszkają drzwi obok/ w sąsiedztwie są przyjaźni.)
The juice which I left in the fridge is gone! (Sok, który zostawiłem w lodówce, zniknął!)
W obu tych zdaniach zamiast who czy which można użyć that. Sens zdania się nie zmienia:
The people that live next door are friendly. (Ludzie, którzy mieszkają drzwi obok są przyjaźni.)
The juice that I left in the fridge is gone! (Sok, który zostawiłem w lodówce, zniknął!)
Whose - którego, której: używamy w odniesieniu do rzeczy i osób, aby wskazać przynależność/własność.
My neighbour, whose daughter is a famous actress, was in jail 2 years ago.
Where - gdzie: używamy w odniesieniu do miejsc. np.
This is the house where I lived as a child.
When – kiedy ( aby określić czas),np.
Christmas is a time when people come together.
An architect is someone who designs buildings. (Architekt to ktoś, kto projektuje budynki.)
I don’t like films which have unhappy endings. (Nie lubię filmów, które mają smutne zakończenie.)
The police have caught the men who robbed the bank.

Topic:Przedimek nieokreślony i określony w języku angielskim – ćwiczenia.
Moi drodzy, jednym z nękających Was problemów w pisaniu maili jest opuszczanie przedimków nieokreślonych (a / an) oraz przedimka określonego ( the).
a/an – przedimki nieokreślone, które stosujemy tylko i wyłącznie przedrzeczownikami policzalnymi w liczbie pojedynczej (a przed spółgłoskami, an przed samogłoskami) kiedy mówimy o jakiejś niekonkretnej rzeczy, należącej do pewnej kategorii, np. a book – jakakolwiek książka, an apple – jakiekolwiek jabłko
the – przedimek określony, który możemy stosować z rzeczownikami policzalnymi w liczbie pojedynczej i mnogiejw następujących sytuacjach:
a) kiedy wymieniasz rzecz po raz kolejny, wymieniasz jakąś konkretną rzecz b) przed rzeczami jedynymi w swoim rodzaju: the Earth, the Sun
c) przed przymiotnikami w stopniu najwyższym; the longest
d) przed nazwami rzek, oceanów, łańcuchów górskich, pustyń i niektórych państw the Nile, the Pacific Ocean, the Rocky Mountains, the Sahara Desert, The United States
Nie stosujemy przedimka „the”:
przed rzeczownikami niepoliczalnymi np. money, air, przed nazwami własnymi, takimi jak nazwy kontynentów, krajów, miast, szczytów górskich np. Europe, Germany, London, Mount Everest
przed nazwami posiłków i w niektórych wyrażeniach: breakfast, lunch, at home, in bed.
