February is a turbulent time, not only because of the high ski season or lovers’ holiday. The current issue not only emanates with love in the main terminal, but above all it reflects a friendly atmosphere. The rescue action, after the catastrophe, which took place 28th of January 2006 in the area of Katowice International Fairs, was attended by res- cuers of Katowice International Airport Fire Brigade:

Opening Ceremony of the Radiolocation Center in MPL Katowice
On 15 December 2005, The Katowice International Airport in Pyrzowice was enriched by a radar station which is an extremely important device significantly enhancing flights safety. Its commissioning will greatly contribute to the improvement of the airport standard. It will also allow reduc- ing the fuel consumption of the planes which until now were consuming the fuel while performing plenty of time consuming procedures. The flow capacity of the airport will increase fun- damentally, too, due to the implementation of lower separa- tions enabling greater amount of simultaneous take offs and landings. Katowice - Paris „Charles de Gaulle”
3 times a day
26 March 2006, at 6:05 p.m., BRIT AIR – an airline being a part of Air France & KLM Group – will commence their operations on the route from the Katowice International Airport in Pyrzowice to Paris (Charles de Gaulle Airport).
Regular traffic will be organized in Katowice – Paris – Katowice circle, flights scheduled three times a day, from Monday to Friday, and twice a day on Saturdays and Sundays on 50-seat planes of Canadair Regional Jet 100 type. Katowice is the first Polish airport from which the French air carrier will operate.
New Connection between Katowice and Edinburgh The inauguration of the new air connection between Katowice and Edinburgh will be held on 28 March 2006.

W akcji ratowniczej po katastrofie, do której doszło na terenie Miedzynarodowych Targów Katowickich 28 stycznia br, brali udził także

Uroczyste Otwarcie Ośrodka Radiolokacyjnego w MPL Katowice Międzynarodowy Port Lotniczy Katowice w Pyrzowicach wzbogacił się 15.12.2005 r.
o radar - niezwykle ważne urządzenie, znacząco podno- szące bezpieczeństwo lotów. Dzięki jego uruchomieniu wzrośnie klasa lotniska. Spowoduje również oszczędności w zużyciu paliwa przez samoloty, które dotychczas spalały je wykonując wiele czasochłonnych procedur. Zasadniczo zwiększy się też przepustowość lotniska poprzez zastoso- wanie mniejszych separacji, umożliwiających większą ilość startów i lądowań w tym samym czasie. Dla osób często wyjeżdżących służbowo takie urządzenie staje się niezbędne. Zamiast wracać do biura, gdzie znajduje się komputer, możemy w każdej chwili go użyć, niezależnie od miejsca pobytu. Mowa o urządzeniach typu PDA/MDA (Per- sonal/Mobile Digital Assistant). Łączą one w sobie cechy komputera i telefonu, a wyposażone są we
wszystko, co potrzebne jest do pracy człowie- ka biznesu. Zacznijmy od najprostszych funk- cji. PDA pozwala na prowadzenie notatek podczas spotkań, także ręcznie za pomocą małego rysika możemy zanotować pomysły, które wpadają przecież w najbardziej nie- oczekiwanych chwilach. Niektóre modele wyposażone są w cyfrowe dyktafony: można nagrywać zarówno spotkania jak i np. roz-
mowy telefoniczne. Oczywiście dostępny jest kalkulator, prze- licznik walut, kalendarz i wiele innych funkcji. To nie wszystko.
Urządzenia tego typu korzystają najczęściej z systemu opera- cyjnego Windows Mobile 2003. Pozwala to na użycie pro- gramów takich jak Pocket Word i Pocket Excel, a więc „kie- szonkowych” wersji popularnych programów edytorskich czy arkuszy kalkulacyjnych.
Urządzenia stają się także „kombajnami”, które mają dbać o relaks właściciela. Nierzadko producenci wyposażają je w aparat cyfrowy (o coraz większej rozdzielczości: 1,3 Mega- pikseli to standard) z funkcją kamery wideo, odtwarzacz plików MP3 oraz aplikacje Java, na których opierają się gry kompute- rowe.
Ważący nieco więcej niż zwykły telefon komórkowy aparat MDA pozwala nam, poza rozmową telefoniczną oczywiście, korzystać z Internetu zarówno za pomocą technologii GPRS jak i WLAN. Tak więc można na nim odbierać i wysyłać pocz- tę e-mail i surfować po sieci będąc w ruchu, jak i w hotspo- tach. Co nam to daje? Wyobraźmy sobie ważną podróż służ- bową i spotkanie z kontrahentem. Materiały do prezentacji można ściągnąć z sieci czekając na samolot, w czasie lotu pra- cujemy nad detalami oferty na naszym małym urządzeniu, a po przylocie, korzystając z wbudowanej w nasze MDA techno- logii WLAN, gotową prezentację przesłać mailem w niezwykle szybki sposób do naszego partnera, by zapoznał się z nią zanim do niego dojedziemy. Na lotnisku w Pyrzowicach także dostępna jest technologia bezprzewodowego dostępu do Internetu. Oszczędność czasu olbrzymia.
W urządzeniach MDA/PDA można także instalować z powo- dzeniem coraz bardziej popularne zestawy do nawigacji samochodowej, ułatwiające poruszanie się po nieznanych obszarach, ale to już trochę inna historia.

For those who are often on business trips this device becomes vital. Instead of coming back to the office where you have your computer you can always use this, any time you want, no mat- ter where you are. Instead of having several devices this one is enough. We are talking here about PDA/MDA devices (Personal/Mobile Digital Assistant). They combine the features of a computer and a telephone. And they are equipped with everything what is needed by a business person at work. Let us start with the simplest functions: PDA allows taking notes during meetings, also by hand. Thanks to a small marking pen we can note down ideas which come to our mind at the most unex- pected moments. Some models are equipped with digital dic- taphones. It is possible then to record both the meetings and e.g. phone calls. A calculator, currency converter, calendar and the mentioned notes as well as a meeting and contact organiz- er are also available.
It is not all. Devices of that type usually use Windows Mobile 2003 operating system. This enables us to use Pocket Word and Pocket Excel software i.e. pocket versions of popular editor software and spreadsheets.
PDA/MDA devices are also becoming „combines” which are supposed to offer relax to their owners. Frequently, the produc- ers equip them with a digital camera of increasingly higher res- olution (1,3 Mega pixels is a standard), a video camera, an MP3 player and Java applications which are basis for computer games. Weighing a bit more than an ordinary mobile phone, MDA device helps us, apart from making a standard phone call of course, use the Internet, both thanks to GPRS and WLAN tech- nology. So it can be used to receive and send e-mails, surf on the net and hotspots while being in motion. What does it provide us with? Imagine an important business trip and a meeting with a customer. The materials for presentation can be downloaded form the net while you are waiting for your flight. During the flight you can work on the details of the presentation and the offer using your tiny device. After you have arrived at the destination place, you can send the presentation quickly to the customer by e-mail thanks to the built-in WLAN technology. The customer then has the chance to get an idea of the presentation before you reach him or her. At the Pyrzowice Airport the wireless Internet access is available, too. Time saving is enormous.
In MDA/PDA devices, popular car navigation systems can be successfully installed which makes the investigation of unknown territories easier. But this is a different story.

Udogodnienie, nie tylko dla pasażerów, wprowadzone zostanie dzięki urządzeniu o nazwie „picocell”, montowanym na pokła- dach samolotów. System wyposażony w stację przekaźniko- wą łączy rozmowy telefoniczne przez satelitę z centralami telefonicznymi na ziemi. „Picocell” emitując niewielką ilość energii zapobiega zakłóceniom urządzeń pokładowych.

Motywacją do zmiany systemu odprawy pasażerskiej, bazu- jącej na kartach pokładowych wyposażonych w pasek magnetyczny jest nie tylko chęć osiągnięcia oszczędności.
Według badań przeprowadzonych przez IATA (International Air Transport Association) zastąpienie kart z paskiem magnetycznym przez karty z kodem kreskowym pozwoli zaoszczędzić blisko 60% kosztów zakupu papieru oraz 40%
w przypadku zmiany urządzeń drukujących. Poza oszczęd- nościami ekonomicznymi czy ochroną środowiska, techno- logia ta pozwala na opcjonalną odprawę w biurze, domu czy przez telefon komórkowy, znacznie ułatwiając i skraca- jąc ten proces, jednocześnie podwyższając poziom bezpie- czeństwa.

A mobile on board – is it possible?
Soon, while traveling by air we will be speaking on mobile phones, unafraid of potential consequences on the part of the on board staff. The convenience, not only for passen- gers, will be introduced thanks to the device named „pico- cell” which is going to be mounted on the plane boards.
The system equipped with the relay station connects phone calls with telephone exchanges on earth through the satel- lite. Due to emitting low quantity of energy, „Picocell” pre- vents disturbances of deck devices.
The new device has been exposed to a series of safety tests.
The findings of the survey completed by SITA show that about 25% of airlines are planning to implement this system over the next two years.
Not only savings
The desire to find savings is not the only reason for chang- ing the system of passenger check-in system basing on boarding cards with magnetic stripes. According to the research done by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the replacement of the cards with the magnetic stripes with cards with a bar code will allow to reduce the buying cost of paper by 60% and the decrease of 40% of the cost will be attained in case of replacement of printing devices. At the end of last year, a new system of multimedia advertis- ing DDS - offering the innovative advertising medium, was introduced at the Katowice Airport. In the main terminal 27 plasma screens have been installed in the most strategic places: in the common hall, in the arrival and departure lounges, in the rooms of Executive Lounge, and in gastro- nomic points. For 20 hours daily, advertising spots, presenta- tions and films can be watched simultaneously on all screens.
In the bottom part of the screen, there is a strip called a scroll- ing banner, where current world events are emitted. Working hours of the system are dependent on the intensity of the pas- senger traffic during the twenty-four hour period. The DDS system is a novelty in the global marketing communication being the alternative for traditional media. The research done by the international organization POPAI (Point of Purchase Advertising Institute) confirms that screens presenting the dynamic advertising situated in the points of sales cause the increase in the sales value fairly by 83%. Thus, next time reaching into our wallets we should think whether we do not owe this well-known reflex to the plasma screens. Surely, many of us ask themselves what DDS means? The system of dynamic marketing communication Dynamic Digital Signage was created to achieve the goals of marketing and promo- tion. When compared to the traditional advertising tools (bill- boards, posters) it clearly shows its superiority in the form of dynamic images more efficiently attracting the attention of potential customers. The digital advertising broadcast has an enormous power of affecting customers awareness because screens, most often situated in the static space of a facility, dis- tinguish themselves from the background and attract people’s looks, differentiating themselves from competitive media.

ie trzeba wcale jechać na południe Europy, aby podziwiać palmy. Można wybrać się do Dublina - stolicy Irlandii. Nie tylko palmy, ale i inne rośliny tropikalne buchają tam zielenią co krok. Zielony to uko- chany kolor Irlandczyków. Gdyby mogli to i czarnego Guinnessa oraz bursztynową Whiskey (pisaną z „e” dla odróżnienia od szkockiej) pewnie by robili zielone. To kraj o idealnym dla nas klimacie: ani za gorąco latem, ani za zimno w zimie. Przez okrągły rok jest zielono, gdyż na wyspie drzewa nie zrzucają liści. Łagodny klimat ma z pewnością wpływ na zachowanie ludzi. Irlandczycy są spokojni, uprzejmi i bardzo dobrze nastawieni do Pola- ków, których do Dublina przybywa coraz więcej. Jeszcze cztery lata temu było ich zameldowanych zaledwie 250.Dziś naszych rodaków nad rzeką Liffey (irl. An Life) mieszka ponad 110 tys. Od połowy grudnia ubiegłego roku do stolicy Irlandii można dolecieć z Katowic polski- mi tanimi liniami Centralwings. Lot trwa niecałe 2,5 godziny. Doskonała komunikacja łączy lotnisko położo- ne na północy miasta z jego centrum. ou do not need to go to the south of Europe to admire palms. You can go to Dublin – the capi- tal city of Ireland. Not only palms but also other tropical plants blaze with green on every corner.Green is the beloved colour of the Irish. If only they could, they would probably make the black Guinness and the amber whiskey (spelled with „e” to make it different form the Scottish type) green. Ireland is a country with a climate ideal for Poles. It is neither too hot in summer nor too cold in winter. It is green all year long since many trees growing here do not shed their leaves. The mild climate certainly affects the people’s behaviour. The Irish are calm, polite and well disposed towards Polish people who roll in to Dublin. Four years ago there were only 250 Poles registered here. Today, over 110 thousand of our countrymen have been living by the River Liffey (An Life). Since the middle of last December you can reach the capital city of Ireland flying from Katowice with the Polish Low Cost Flight Operator Centralwings. The flight takes less than 2.5 hours.
The airport located in the northern part of the city is perfectly connected with the city centre thanks to the public transport good. The smooth travelling may be
interrupted however, due to the motorway being cur- rently expanded and it is better to set off a little ear- lier during the rush hours. But still, the journey to the centre on one of the numerous buses takes only about half an hour. Polish people come to Dublin mostly to find jobs which are not lacking here at all.
The minimum legally guaranteed wage is 6.5 Euros per hour. If you do not find a job in your profession, you can take advantage of a course financed in greater part by the government of Ireland. The Polish language then, is often heard on the streets of Dublin. You can buy Polish newspapers and also get yourself some home food. „Our” store is located in the city centre, near the Millenium Spire – a beautiful structure visible from the furthermost parts of the city.

Można kupić polskie gazety, a także zaopatrzyć się w rodzimą żywność. ”Nasz” sklep znajduje się w centrum miasta, nieopodal Milenijnej Iglicy - prześlicznej kon- strukcji, widzianej z najdalszego zakątka miasta. Sam Dublin jest po prostu cudownie spokojny: nie ma w sobie nic z hałaśliwej, rozbieganej metropolii. Niska, zwarta zabudowa i nie za szerokie ulice sprawiają, że wszędzie jest blisko. Przynajmniej w centrum, po którym najlepiej poruszać się pieszo. Reprezentacyjną ulicą, porównywaną z paryskimi Polami Elizejskimi jest O’Con- nell Street. Przy lewostronnym ruchu trzeba chwilę poćwiczyć, aby bez obaw kierować samochodem z pra- wego fotela.
Dublin is just amazingly peaceful and calm. It does not show any signs of being a noisy, racing metropo- lis. Low and compact building and not too wide streets make you feel that everything is close. In the centre, at least, it is best to walk. The main artery of Dublin, often compared to Parisian Elysian Fields, is O’Connell Street. The traffic is heavy but the city rarely experiences traffic jams. Driving on the left really needs some practice while sitting in the seat on the right hand side.

Najważniejszymi z nich są oddziały Muzeum Narodowego z cennymi zabytkami sztuki od epoki brązu, aż po współczesność. Można zatem podziwiać i wyroby Wikingów, i obrazy takich mistrzów jak Tycjan, Rembrandt czy Caravaggio. Warto odwiedzić także zamek wybudo- wany przez Normanów na miejscu dawnej fortyfikacji Wikingów i znajdującą się w pobliżu katedrę Christchurch z 1172 r. Nie sposób pominąć uniwersyteckiej biblioteki (Trinity College), w której znajdują się unikalne średnio- wieczne rękopisy ze słynną Księgą z Kells (Book of Kells).W mieście nie brakuje terenów rekreacyjnych. our free time you can spend visiting not only pubs in the Temple Bar Area but also historic places in the neighbourhood. There are 35 museums and galleries in Dublin. The most important are the branches of the National Museum storing pre- cious precious artefacts of different periods like the Bronze Age or the contemporary world. You can then admire works of the Vikings and paintings of Titan, Rembrandt or Caravaggio. The castle built by the Normans on the cite of former Viking fortifications and the nearby Christchurch cathedral built in 1172 are also worth seeing. It is impossible to ignore the university library of Trinity College where unique mediaeval manuscripts together with the famous Book of Kells are kept. The city owes its green appellation also to the number of recreational facilities. Phoenix Park covering an area of 80 square km is the largest city park in Europe. Within its area there are sports facilities, the zoo and the President’s official resi- dence. To compare, the area of WPKiW in Chorzów, which is not inconsiderable, equals to 6 square km. Teoria motyla
Historia lotnictwa dowodzi teorii motyla, która polega na tym, że mało znaczące wydarzenie może mieć w przyszłości niewyobrażalne wręcz konsekwencje. Obrazowo wygląda to tak: motyl muskając skrzydełkiem wodę oceanu powo- duje, że po pewnym czasie następuje burza. Statek rozbija się o skały, a rozbitkowie na wyspie znajdują pokłady ropy.
To z kolei np. doprowadza do konfliktu zbrojnego. W przy- padku braci Josepha i Jacquesa Montgolfier, wynalazców balonu, trzeba się cofnąć aż do 1247 roku. Wówczas to ich przodek dostał się do tureckiej niewoli, gdzie poznał tajniki produkcji papieru. Po powrocie do Francji założył papier- nię, którą niespełna pięć wieków później odziedziczyli bra- cia Montgolfier. Kiedy zauważyli, że schnące nad ogni- skiem pranie unosi się do góry, doszli do wniosku, że gdyby ciepłe powietrze zamknąć w papierowym worku, można by się wzbić w powietrze. Ich pierwszy papierowy balon zapię- ty był na dwa i pół tysiąca guzików i po raz pierwszy uniósł się, jeszcze bez ludzi, 5 czerwca 1783 roku. Tak zaczęła się era lotnictwa.

The history of aviation proves the butterfly theory which says that an event of little significance can bring unimaginable consequences in the future. A butterfly stroking the water of the ocean with its wing causes that some time later the storm begins. A ship crashes on the rocks and castaways find oil fields on the island. This in turn leads to an armed conflict. In the case of Montgolfier brothers – Joseph and Jacques – the inventors of the balloon, you need to get back to 1247. Just then, their ancestor was taken captive by the Turkish. There, he learnt the detailed arcane of manufac- turing of paper. After having returned to France he estab- lished a paper-mill which about five ages later was inherit- ed by the Montgolfier brothers. When they noticed that the laundry being dried over the fire-place rises up, they con- cluded that if warm air had been closed in a paper bag one could rise into the air. Their first paper balloon was but- toned with two and a half thousand of buttons and it rose for the first time, yet without people, on 5 June 1783. That is how the era of aviation was started.

The custom of consuming during the air travel originated at the moment of the passenger aerial transport coming into being. It was just a natural transfer of the customs from lin- ers. The palates of the airship passengers used to be taken care of with the greatest magnificence. During 3 day flight over the Atlantic champagne, the caviar and crayfish were not lavished. The journey on these dinosaurs of space pro- gressed in extremely comfortable conditions. The gon- dola of the airship resembled an exclusive boarding house with the restaurant, the bar, and the concert hall. On board there was even the aluminum piano. If, for instance, the stay in the USA is to last a day or two it is not recommended to switch to the American time. It is suggested to have a light meal after arrival and go asleep in the early evening. After waking up, which is going to happen in the middle of the American night, it is necessary to have breakfast and then not to try to fall asleep but read books or watch TV for a cou- ple of hours. Since at dawn of the local time sleepiness embraces us with its full strength, it is crucial then to plan our meetings after 9:00 so that we could have a nap just before leaving. It is important to sleep as much as possible on the plane while getting back home to minimize the travel fatigue.

Oczywiście te ciepłe, a nawet gorące: radość, entuzjazm po (zawsze) zbyt długiej rozłące, miłość - istnieją wśród nas. Są jednak miejsca, które powodują większą intensywność ich wyrażania. Miejsca, które budzą emocje, sprzyjają uczu- ciom. Jesteśmy przekonani, że procent pocałunków na metr kwadratowy lotniska znacznie przewyższa średnią krajową.

Certamente quelli caldi, anzi ardenti: la gioia, l'entusiasmo dopo una separazione (sempre) troppo lunga, l'amore – sono tra di noi. Tuttavia ci sono i posti che ispirano un'intensità più grande della loro espressione. I posti che suscitano delle emozioni, che sono favorevoli ai sentimenti. Siamo convinti che la percentuale dei baci al metro quadro dell'aeroporto è molto più grande della media nazionale. Speriamo che sotto il benevolo patronato di San Valentino quelli che si baciano saranno sempre più numerosi. Non solo all'aeroporto.

Bien sûr ceux qui sont chauds ou même chaleureux: la joie, l'enthousiasme après une séparation (toujours) trop longue, l'amour – ils sont parmi nous. Cependant il y a des endroits qui inspirent une intensité plus grande de leur expression. Les endroits qui suscitent des émotions, qui sont favorables aux sentiments. Nous sommes persuadés que le pourcentage des baisers sûr un mêtre carré de l'aéroport est bien supérieur à la moyenne nationale. - Jest to najszybciej zmieniający się region w Polsce. Punkt wyjścia przy tym był tu jednym z najtrudniejszych, gdyż obciążeń z minionego półwiecza było najwięcej. Natomiast skala zmian zachodzących teraz musi być „porażająca” dla każdego, kto wyjechał stąd dziesięć czy piętnaście lat temu.
Przeszliśmy od 1989 roku najdłuższą drogę, jeżeli chodzi o zmianę rzeczywistości gospodarczej i wizerunku regionu.

- Tak. I one, prędzej czy później zaczną być widoczne.
Świadczy to o mądrości Ślązaków, bo zmiany zaczęliśmy robić od fundamentów, a nie od upiększania fasady. Mam tu na myśli i restrukturyzację przemysłu ciężkiego, dbałość o pozyskiwanie inwestorów, i rozwój edukacyjny Śląska. To także wszystkie inwestycje infrastrukturalne, których jest naj- więcej w Polsce: drogi, wodociągi, energetyka.

- Tak. Na to też warto zwrócić uwagę, jeżeli porównujemy miasta europejskie. Katowice są w tej uprzywilejowanej sytuacji, że one tak naprawdę mogą się wymyślić na nowo.
W większości miast jesteśmy skazani na zastaną rzeczywi- stość. Jeżeli chodzi o Katowice i w dużym stopniu Śląsk, to mamy możliwość i odpowiedzialność zaprojektowania i stworzenia tej rzeczywistości na wiele dekad, które nadej- dą.

- Pomyślałem o zmianie wizerunku przy jednoczesnym nie- zaniechaniu tego, co jest, co zostało. Śląsk jest takim miej- scem szczególnym. Mówi się o rewitalizacji obiektów poprzemysłowych, nadaniu im innej funkcji. Na przykład pojawił się plan zupełnie innego zagospodarowania kamienic położonych w centrum Katowic przy uniwersyte- cie. Można przenieść tam campus akademicki, który teraz jest poza miastem. Zaniedbane jeszcze kamienice mogłyby się stać jednym z najpiękniejszych w Polsce osiedli akade- mickich.

- It is the fastest changing region in Poland. The starting point was one of the most difficult, for the burden of the bygone fifty years was the biggest here. But the range of changes taking place has to be striking for everyone who left the region ten or fifteen years ago. Since 1989 we have gone through a great many changes as regards the eco- nomic reality and the image of the region.

- Yes. And they, sooner or later, will become visible.
It speaks volumes for the Silesians’ wisdom, as we intro- duced changes on the foundations first, not starting with
the facade. I am talking here about the restructuring of heavy industry, investor gaining policy and educational development of Silesia. They combine all the infrastruc- ture investments such as roads, water-supply service and power engineering industry.

- Najłatwiej i najtaniej, jakkolwiek warto ponieść pewne inwestycje po to, by zachować charakter pewnych miejsc, by nowe inwestycje nie były do siebie bliźniaczo podobne.

- Z racji swoich przyzwyczajeń z dzieciństwa najchętniej wypoczywam w okolicach Wisły.

- To pytanie trzeba by podzielić na dwie części. Czy docze- kamy się w sensie administracyj- no-prawnym? Jest spora szan- sa. To kwestia ustawy, która Katowice uczyni aglome- racją. Bardziej jednak interesująca jest kwe- stia, czy doczekamy takiego miasta w rze- czywistości. W sporej mierze to już jest aglo- meracja. Ludzie traktu- ją miasta śląskie jako jedną całość. Mieszka- ją w jednym, pracują w drugim, chodzą do kina w trzecim, jadą do teatru do czwartego, do aquaparku do piątego, itd. Nikt tu nie czuje się

- Yes. It is worth paying attention to, when we compare European cities. Katowice is privileged in this respect, as it can be invented from the start. In the majority of cities we are faced with the existing reality. As regards Katowice, and Silesia as well, we have the opportunity and responsibility to plan and create the new reality for the many decades to come.

Silesia is a special place. There appear ideas of revitalizing industrial buildings and changing their functions. For exam- ple, a completely different arrangement of tenement hous- es near university in the center of Katowice, like changing them into university campus (which is now in the suburbs of the city), would create one of the most beautiful such estates in Poland.

- Yes and we would achieve it by joining the tradition with the modernity. The change does not have to mean destroy- ing. We can achieve an anticipated shape not resigning from the existing values of the places.

- The easiest and the cheapest, however it is worth invest- ing in order to keep the character of some places and avoid the similarity of all the investments.

-Great place! You don’t have to climb the top on your own feet. You can reach the place by car, and having walked 200 meters you can truly be in the mountains. But you don’t have to leave Katowice in order to relax. Hardly any- one knows that a substantial part of the city is covered by green area. It results from the fact that it consists of many quarters-islands, once settlements, located around coal- mines, surrounded by forests.

- This question should be divided into two parts. In the administrative-legal sense? The chances are huge. It is the matter of a legal act which would change Katowice into agglomeration. But more interesting is whether we will live to see such a city in reality. Generally, it is already an agglomeration. People treat Silesian cities as a whole. They live in one, work in the other, visit cinema, theater or swimming pool in some other. Nobody sees themselves as the citizen of that part in which they spend the night. On the other hand, we cannot talk here about a true agglomeration, as the gravitational force of Katowice in relation to its districts is too small. That is why it is not so an agglomeration, but a conurbation of several independent centers, which the fact hinders inte- gration. But thanks to this, the city has more than one face.
