FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
“ORDINARY TIME”
Christmas Season is over, all too soon, and we have now entered into a new season of the liturgical year. This is the time of the year that does not fall into the great seasons of Advent or Christmas, Lent or Easter. Nowadays, his is given the rather uninspired name of “Ordinary Time”. This is a translation of the Latin term Tempus per annum, which literally means
“timethrough the year”. I’ve heard it also translated as the “Season of the Year”, which isn’t too bad, but “Ordinary Time” is just so, well, ordinary.
There is nothing ordinary about the Christian life. Perhaps this should remind us that the between the high and low points of our lives, between those key moments, is the ordinary living of our day-to-day lives. Between the joy of Christmas and the penitential Lent comes the even keel, our everyday growth in the Christian life. That idea of growth in the Christian life is why the vestments are green during Ordinary Time.
Because of the way the liturgical year is structured, Ordinary Time is broken into the two distinct periods, the relatively short Ordinary Time following Epiphany, and the much longer Ordinary Time following Pentecost.
Before the liturgical reform of the 1970s, this season was actually two different seasons. I have to say that this makes better sense to me. I would even prefer “Time after Epiphany” to
“Ordinary Time”. We will remain in Ordinary Time until Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent, and then pick it up again after Pentecost.
May this time of the church’s year be for all of us a time of our spiritual growth and deepening of our friendship with the Lord.

The Diocese of Bridgeport’s 2021 Annual Catholic Appeal.
Our parish goal for 2021 Annual Catholic Appeal is $32,300. I am happy to report to you that we have now raised 143 gifts worth $22,046 from 124 donors bringing our Parish to 68.25%
of its $32,300 goal. Our progress depends on even greater generosity from the rest of our parish. Both Bishop Caggiano and I are extremely grateful for all you do to support our Diocesan ministries and works of charity!

„OKRES ZWYKŁY”
Rozpoczęliśmy w Kościele „okres zwykły”.
Takie nazywanie tego czasu jest dość niefortunne i mylące. Pojęcie „zwykły” można bowiem rozumieć jako niewiele znaczący, pospolity. I gdyby tak pojmować ten najdłuższy przecież czas roku liturgicznego, mogłoby to w konsekwencji prowadzić do przeżywania go w sposób znacznie mniej zaangażowany lub nawet –co byłoby już zupełną katastrofą - po prostu byle jak.
Czym różni się okres zwykły od czterech najbardziej znaczących okresów roku liturgicznego? Najkrócej należałoby na to pytanie odpowiedzieć następująco: o ile w tamtych celebrowany jest w szczególniejszy sposób jeden z aspektów tajemnicy zbawienia (tajemnica Wcielenia w Adwencie i okresie Bożego Narodzenia oraz tajemnica Paschy w okresach Wielkiego Postu i Wielkanocy), to w okresie zwykłym nie skupiamy się na jednym tylko elemencie czy etapie dziejów zbawienia, ale celebrujemy je jakby w całości. Dotyczy to w szczególny sposób wszystkich niedziel, które zresztą w początkach Kościoła – obok dorocznej Wielkanocy–były jedynymi uroczystościami. To oczywiście tylko niektóre aspekty okresu zwykłego. Mam jednak nadzieję, że udało mi się przekonać Was, drodzy parafianie, że okres ten w liturgii, poprzez bogactwo rozmaitych świąt, jakie ze sobą przynosi, a przede wszystkim poprzez nieustanną obecność Pana Jezusa w Kościele w tajemnicy prawd o Nim samym, w tajemnicy Jego Matki i Jego wiernych uczniów – świętych oraz proponowane przez Kościół nabożeństwa, jest tak naprawdę czasem niezwykłym i pięknym. Życzę, by dla każdego z Was był to czas nieustannego pogłębiania swojej Przyjaźni z Jezusem.

When asked to be a sponsor, a certificate is needed from your home parish. If the parish priest does not know you personally, or by sight, the only other way of knowing you as practicing catholic is by tracking your contributions by check or envelope.
