Internet oferuje obecnie różnego typu usługi psychoedukacyjne i terapeu-tyczne; coraz więcej klinicystów jest zainteresowanych posiadaniem własnych stron internetowych w celach reklamowych, wymiany informacji z innymi profesjonalistami, a także oferowania usług poradnianych41. Z powodu usta-lania standardów pracy online oraz często jeszcze płynnych wytycznych ze strony towarzystw naukowych i uregulowań prawnych42 każdy doradca powinien dążyć do tworzenia najlepszych z możliwych warunków pracy w sieci i zadbać o to, by poradnictwo internetowe nie zaczęło mieć złej repu-tacji43. Istnieje dużo argumentów za tym, że poradnictwo online nie wyprze całkowicie pracy bezpośredniej z klientem, przynajmniej w wielu obszarach tematycznych, ale też korzystne wydaje się otwarcie na nowe możliwości pomocy poprzez Internet i poszukiwanie niszy dla poradnictwa online, któ-re najprawdopodobniej w najbliższych kilku latach ostatecznie okktó-reśli swoje standardy i procedury44. Człowiek jest istotą społeczną, a więc kontakt twarzą w twarz, wraz z sys-temem kodów werbalnych i niewerbalnych, rozwiniętych przez tysiąclecia, nie tak szybko będzie mógł być zastąpiony technologią komunikacji interne-towej. Należy natomiast zaakceptować fakt że Internet stał się już de facto dodatkowym sposobem komunikacji międzyludzkiej, również w kontekście pracy w poradnictwie i terapii.
